“Hard times don’t create heroes. It is during the hard times when the ‘hero’ within us is revealed.” -Bob Riley

Invincible, the Half-Viltrumite Defender of Earth.

Rodimus Prime, the Turbo Revving Autobot of Cybertron.

Heroism for some begins at a young age, and it can seem like destiny to become a superhero, especially with an alien heritage. Earth needed them unexpectedly, and in the shoes of those who came before them, the desire to prove themselves and rise up increased, only to feel weighed down by their mistakes and inner turmoil, kicked to the curb by a feeling of inadequacy and weighed down by the expectations. But these struggles were burdens they were willing to bear, proving themselves to be the real heroes when they were needed the most, going beyond the stars to stop the forces ready to subjugate humanity, rising to be the leaders they always meant to be.

Determined to the heart, steadfast, quippy, and hotheaded, these two heroes get back up when they fall down, ready to put their lives on the line if it means saving those they care about. In a battle of indomitable wills, who will triumph? Can the half Viltrumite live up to his namesake, or will Hot Rod light the spark for Cybertron? The finest heroes face off in this DEATH BATTLE!

Before We Start…

Invincible is fairly straightforward, and we will be looking at his main comics and the TV show, along with the Invincible: Guardians of the Globe game. Special thanks to community member Fiction for letting us use their Invincible research.

Now for Rodimus, we will be sticking with IDW 1 and Last Bot Standing for this blog for a few reasons. While the MU is good against a comp Rodimus, it's not debatable at all. Sticking with IDW is the most debatable version of the MU and most interesting for a blog. We will also be using Last Bot Standing since the creator has stated it’s potentially canon to every timeline and that Rodimus references the IDW continuity so some version of those events happened to him, and have more elaboration on some of these canon elements of Transformers towards the end of this blog.

Background

Invincible

“I'll never let... anyone... ever... EVER... HURT MY FAMILY!”

From his birth, Mark Grayson was always destined for greatness. As the superhero Omni-Man's son, he was always expected to get powers and be like his dad. Why wouldn’t he want to? Mark would, of course, develop his superpowers. But what’s a superhero without a secret identity? If Mark wanted to protect everyone, he would need to be unstoppable to be a hero. No, Invincible. But Mark couldn’t be a superhero for long before the Guardians of the Globe, the premiere superhero team, were killed. It would be soon revealed to the world that Mark’s father isn’t a superhero from a mysterious planet, but a warrior sent by planet Viltrum to make Earth hand itself over to the Viltrum empire. All Mark would have to do is join his father, stand by his side, and take over.

Mark resisted, enduring a brutal beatdown, ending with his father leaving after Nolan questioned Mark on what he’d have after 500 years. As the only Viltrumite on Earth, Mark started working for Cecil, helping the new Guardians of the Globe protect Earth. He would also get a girlfriend. Not Eve (Who you might remember from her blog), but Amber. Life, for now, was good. Until it wasn’t. Mark was approached by a space alien who called for the young boy's help. He went to the planet of Thraxa, where he discovered his father had started a whole new life. New wife, and a new son. Mark was happy to see his father, even after what he did to him. But celebrations were cut short as Viltrumites attacked, slaughtering many of the planet, and capturing Omni-Man. Another villain, known as Angstrom Levy, wanted Mark dead. He went into his home, threatened Mark's mom and brother, received his beatdown and almost killed the man. He thought that Angstrom would be stronger, someone who could take hits, but he wasn’t.

Life continued to get worse for Mark. Viltrumites would attempt to force him to join the empire, and his relationship with Cecil ended up with him quitting, but he had his brother, someone who he could teach to be a hero. But Oliver, the name that was given to him, didn’t want to be like Mark. He wanted to be like Omni-Man, his father. Mark takes place in the Invincible War, a multi-dimensional battle where Angstrom Levy sends alternate versions of Mark to destroy the world. Not long after he meets and battles Conquest, one of the strongest Viltrumites, temporarily killing him. Mark eventually becomes too brutal, killing those to stop them, feeling bad for it.  If that wasn’t bad enough, Omni-Man is back and wants his son's help. The Coalition of Planets need his help to take down Viltrum, alongside their leader, Thragg. After a brief battle with Thragg that leads to Oliver’s ‘death’, Mark destroys planet Viltrum, blowing up the planet.

After this, Mark goes on a few adventures, getting closer to his girlfriend Atom Eve, and trying to help a red dinosaur named Dinosaurus. During this, the Coalition of Planets discovers the Scourge virus, a disease powerful enough to wipe out all Viltrumites on Earth, since many had retreated to their after the destruction of the planet. Mark disagrees, fighting the Coalition over it, even having Thragg join in and help. While one threat is prevented, another one is made, Dinosaurus detonates bombs in Greenland which floods cities. A brief conflict between them leads to Mark back working for Cecil.

Eve, who is now his fiance and pregnant, is taken by Angstrom and held hostage. But through self-reflection, a convocation with Eve, and the idea to quit while he’s ahead, Angstrom lets him go. But before he can, he’s taken by a cannibalistic version of Mark. The main Mark works to find Angstrom, teaming up with superhero Robot to find them, entering an alternative dimension. Unfortunately, Robot has been in a spiral for quite some time, so he kills Angstrom and leaves Mark stranded. But, he’s Invincible and manages to find a way back. Unknowingly, Mark had been gone for six months, and Robot had told Eve he was dead. She breaks up with him. Not long after, Mark is sexually assaulted by Anissa, a Viltrumite who believes in pure species. Things go from bad to worse as Mark has to fight against Robot, who is attempting to take over the world, forcing Mark to suit up and save the world.

Mark deals with the fallout of Robot, who systematically takes out many vital figures, including Cecil, and dismembers Eve. Luckily for Mark, Eve would live, telling Mark to stop Robot. While he meant to take down Robot, it was revealed that Nolan and the other Viltrumites had negotiated to cut a deal with Robot to let them live peacefully. While Mark didn’t enjoy it, he had to accept it for now, as Eve gave birth to their daughter, Terra. But instead of staying on Earth, Mark would move to Talescria.

Due to some time resetting reboot, Mark missed the first five years of Terra’s life. Of course, things can’t get better for Mark, as he’s attacked by Thargg, who has an army of Thraxan-Viltrumite children, with Thragg killing Oliver. This leads to Mark finally putting down Thragg, something he manages to do. The conflict isn’t without casualties, as Nolan takes a powerful blast, the two have one last convocation where Mark is told to lead the Viltrumites

With Nolan dead, Robot attacks Mark, assuming that Mark would use the Viltrumites to kill him. Mark, alongside many of the heroes, manages to take down Robot. As the world repairs itself, Mark puts The Immortal in charge, using Robot’s brain as a logical advisor. Mark himself? He took every Viltrumite and left Earth, taking his wife and child with him, watching as she slowly grew up. Mark managed to find peace, not just with himself, but with the world; this is what he would have after 500 years; his family, and his legacy.

Rodimus Prime

“Till All are One!”

Millions of years ago on the planet Cybertron, revolution was brewing. A former miner turned gladiator named Megatron fought against the senate who controlled through functionalism. A belief that your alt mode determines your role in society. With civil war brewing between the revolutionary Decepticons and the new faction created by Orion Pax called the Autobots. Both wanted to change Cybertron but were unable to compromise. In the middle stood one turbo revving young street punk named Hot Rod.

The current Prime, Zeta, was taking all the energy from the city of Nyon leaving its people hungry and barely scraping by. A young Hot Rod wanted to gain the attention of officer Orion Pax and show the atrocities that Zeta was committing to his own citizens. At that moment Zeta launched an attack on Nyon with his new vampiric weapons, leaching off the energy of the residents of the city. In order to stop Zeta getting more power Rodimus made the decision to destroy Nyon, killing everyone in order to halt the mad Prime's plan. This would just be the first of many painful lessons Hot Rod would go through.

Megatron would kill Zeta, but would not bring liberation. The miner's aspirations of freedom have morphed into a need for conquest. Seeing the Decepticons true face, Hot Rod would officially join the ranks of the Autobots along with their reborn leader, Optimus Prime, who held the mythic Matrix of Leadership within him.

This conflict would span eons and would make Cybertron uninhabitable. The conflict would be waged among the stars and other worlds. Eventually leading to a small planet called Earth. There the conflict would come to a head resulting in mass casualties, Starscream getting hold of the Matrix and stranding some Autobots on Earth. Including Hot Rod. The young bot would begin to question Optimus’s leadership and try to seize command for himself. Getting the nickname Rodimus Prime. This would quickly lead to disaster and Hot Rod would flee in shame.

In order to redeem himself he would get the Matrix back from the Decepticons, though an encounter with Megatron would leave him just barely alive. Only surviving thanks to the Matrix. Returning to the Autobots, he gave Optimus the Matrix back, and in return was dubbed Rodimus by Optimus, a sign of acknowledgement of his growth. Together they would help defeat the creature known as The D-Void and restore Cybertron with The Matrix. This would empty out the Matrix and in its shell a map would be etched into it. A map theorised to reveal the location of the Knights of Cybertron, the mythical ancestors of the Cybertronians.

Rodimus would assemble a crew of over two hundred Cybertronians, composed of lost souls, misfits, or people with just nothing better to do. With the strict Ultra Magnus and ex-Con Drift by his side they would embark on the Lost Light and begin their quest. Which immediately went off the rails due to a quantum jump mishap. This would set the tone for the journey as insanity, hijinks, and tragedy followed wherever they went. Crossing paths with all kinds of foes such as Sparkeaters, the mad surgeon Pharma, the bounty hunter Lockdown, and the mad Chief Justice Tyrest. Rodimus would learn just how leadership was and make decisions that would cost the lives of his crew.

They would be recalled to Cybertron to deal with Shockwave’s regenesis plan. After the conflict had settled the Lost Light would gain more members. Including the recently converted Autobot: Megatron. In order to atone for his sins he wanted to help find Cyberutopia and give a new golden age for the residents of Cybertron. Rodimus would be demoted to co-captain as he and the ex-Decepticon would share leadership. While initially a hostile relationship, the two would grow to value the other and develop a strong bond. A bond tested as the second voyage of the Lost Light would have the crew fight, serial killers, ticks that feed off your personality, a fake Earth, time travel, a duplicate Lost Light, and the Decepticon Justice Division. The crew's biggest threat would come from within as the Autobot Getaway would convince most of the Lost Light to betray Rodimus and his closest friends. Deeming him a incompetent leader and a traitor for being close with Megatron. Bring left for dead on Necroworld with the DJD, Overlord and Deathsaurus's army. They would survive the encounter, but not without sacrifices, Rodimus vowing to kill Getaway.

Their troubles wouldn't stop as Rodimus' team would get stuck in a universe where the civil war never happened and Functionism still dominated Cybertronian culture. Escaping from that timeline, Team Rodimus would deal with former crewmates turned zombies and false heavens in their revenge quest. Eventually Rodimus would face off against Getaway and in a final battle Rodimus would choose to spare Getaway. Only for Getaway to get killed by scraplets a few moments later. At the same time, The Functionist universe would also break into the main timeline with a false Primus. In order to stop them the real Primus (Who was the ship’s therapist) made Matrixes for the crew to open. Rodimus would give the motivation and belief to open them, ending the Functionists once and for all.

Learning they had technically found the Knights of Cybertron throughout their journey. The crew would part ways and Megatron would be sentenced. Rodimus would look back fondly on his times with the crew as he would struggle with this new era of Peace.

In a potential future however peace would not last, the war would restart and then end again, and restart, and end, and restart, and end. Until most of the known universe was destroyed. Rodimus would see to it himself to end the Cybertronian conflict. Hiding the last source of Energon until all Cybertronians died out. He would set himself in stasis in case the organics he protected on one of the last worlds left needed him again. Because even at the end of time, if there is one thing Rodimus has learned in his life is that the struggle, the conflict, the journey never ends.

Experience & Skill

Invincible

Mark Grayson has been put through the wringer since he got his powers. He’s been in many fights, taking many beatings, but is still known as the guy who punches up. Whether he’s fighting Viltrumites with years worth of experience, villains who’ve been doing this far longer than he has, or even his father. Early in his career, Mark fought his father and survived, only getting more powerful thanks to people like Cecil who put him through rigorous training exercises. Nolan even noted in the second encounter that he had gotten stronger, and that he fights like a Viltrumite, becoming far more ruthless and bloodthirsty as fights progress.

Mark is a surprisingly skilled foe, able to fight through the worst of situations. He’s fought through broken limbs, having his guts torn, and even took a dive into the sun and kept on fighting. Despite being a flying brick in terms of abilities, Mark has great combat skills. He can catch punches, tackle people, counter your attacks, though sometimes Mark believes not all problems can be solved with fisticuffs, showing that he is a level-headed fighter when he needs to be. It shows through his tactical and analytic intelligence during battle, such as noticing an opponent is stronger than him, and he switched up to dodging his attacks, or when he fought with Thomas Winters an indestructible lab experiment noticed he couldn't hold his breath for long so he forced him into space to knock him out

Of course, Mark only got more powerful. Mark beat both Thragg and Conquest, two battle-hardened Viltrumites with eons of experience, the latter of which through smarts of his own, choking him out the second he exhaled to take him down. He’s fought a wide variety of foes, always coming back for more. It’s what makes him…Invincible.

Rodimus Prime

For a young and rash autobot, Rodimus has been around for a long time, around 4.2 million years to be exact, being a graduate from Autobot Academy. This has led to him being part of many battles against foes like the Decepticons, Sweeps, Cyberwraiths, and many other alien threats. Whether it be through his own intellect in battle or his leadership, Rodimus has been shown to be quite the warrior. Even early on, back when he was known as Hot Rod, Rodimus stood up for what he believed was right against the likes of Zeta Prime.

Rodimus a very skilled fighter on the Battlefield, whether it be through his plethora of weapons or just his natural skills. Rodimus is outfitted with your usual Transformers weapons, arm cannons, force fields, swords, etc. But Rodimus is still able to fight without weapons, even using his surroundings to his advantage such as riding a meteor while falling from orbit. He has gotten himself into many run-ins with trouble yet still manages to find his way out of almost each predicament. He’s stolen Ultra Magnus’ ship, used his body as a beacon for help, and even faked his own death in an explosion.

Rodimus took on the leadership throughout the years as a captain and squad leader. He has a natural intuition for on the fly plans. Even if he is flying solo or leading others. Rodimus has even proven time and again his intellect and partial wisdom as a leader, Optimus himself has recognized this talent for a long time.  As captain of the Lost Light, Rodimus led his crew out of several mishaps, from upgrading a quantum generator (with the help of Perceptor) to escape the past, to figuring out a plan to escape Necroworld using Skip’s body. He’s even broken Nightbeat out of his brainwashing. The Lost Light is not the only team he’s led, as he also led the army of Rodimuses against the Dark Matrix creature

Even though Rodimus is far from the strongest Cybertronian he has fought plenty of big name threats, including the likes of Megatron, Starscream, Scorponok, The DJD, and Getaway. Coming out alive more times than not through wits, skill and a little bit of luck. With the help of fellow allies, he fended off many different threats ranging from robozombies in the Dark Universe with Kup, to the guards of the Omega Bunker with his fellow crewmates. Despite Rodimus’s insecurities, worrying on living up to those before him, he’s grown as a leader well worthy of being the successor to Optimus Prime. With millions of years of experience growing from a young Cybertronian to a leader of the Autobots, Rodimus has always got…The Touch.

Equipment

Invincible

Hero Suit

To be a superhero you need a good reason, a set of skills or powers, and best of all; A sick costume which Mark is not lacking in at all. He of course has his iconic yellow blue and black outfit made by professional suit tailor Arthur "Art" Rosenbaun. The costume is pretty similar to his fathers in terms of materials with it being made out of Smart Atoms. The suit can also survive Mark flying into space so fast his regular clothes burn up while his super suit survives and the mask also has goggles adding a nice protection for his eyes. Mark also has a blue variant.

Improvised Weapons

With the strength to pick just about anything up, Marks used a variety of random objects as weapons. Like that Rubble Hammer in the gif, or a Baseball which he can throw so fast it catches on fire and breaks through mountains, large vehicles and even…a strange looking Sniper Rifle? Basically anything heavy that's near him, Mark will use it.

Telepathic Earpiece

Given to him by Nolan, Mark has a Telepathic Earpiece that allows him to communicate with others even if they don't have an Earpiece themselves. Which is useful since hearing in space is pretty hard.

Artifacts

In the hit mobile game ’Invincible: Guarding The Globe’ Mark and his allies can access what are known as ‘’Artifacts’’ Which seem just like random items from the series but in reality, These allow Mark and other heroes to gain a stat amplifications, cause their enemies to be weakened and as a bonus, usually come with a unique ability.

These include…

Rodimus Prime

Matrix of Leadership

The Autobot symbol of leadership destined to unite the Cybertronian race. The IDW incarnation of the Matrix is a fair bit different from its usual depictions in Transformers media. The Matrix’s core is composed of billions of photonic crystals, special minerals which are able to store and ignite the very energies of a Cybertronian’s spark. The only known source of photonic crystals is the alternate mode of the Lost Light’s psychiatrist Rung, better known as Primus, who in a forgotten time welded together many photonic crystals to produce the Creation Matrix. Through this process, the Matrix has many mysterious life-giving abilities. Its primary function is to ignite Cybertron and its moons’ natural hotspots alongside Vector Sigma, allowing for sparks to be born from the planet itself. The photonic crystals in its core can also be used to create new sparks directly. Only the pure of heart who believe themselves to be worthy can open the Matrix.

Rodimus has had possession of the Matrix in some form in three separate periods, being specifically compatible with it and capable of opening it (with his teeth) even at the very end of his story. Prior to the revival of Cybertron, he stole the artifact while it was in the possession of Starscream, but was quickly shot through the chest by Megatron and essentially torn in half. Despite this, the Matrix was able to heal Rodimus and embed itself in his chest, whereupon he would use its energy as a fuel source to return to the other Autobots and give it back to Optimus Prime. Subsequently, Optimus would split the Matrix in half and give one piece to Rodimus, containing a mysterious map to what legends believed to be the Knights of Cybertron. Rodimus would end up using this piece to counter Tyrest’s plan to kill all constructed-cold Transformers in the universe by affirming their sparkcodes even as they were actively being scrambled, in the process shattering the piece. Finally, Rodimus would use a duplicate of the Matrix created by Rung at the very climax of his story, opening it alongside 11 other Matrices to overload Vector Sigma and disintegrate the Functionist Council.

Owing to its ambiguous origins which serve as a core mystery in the second half of the IDW continuity, the Matrix has many strange and seemingly unexplainable abilities. Beyond just having revived Rodimus while he was practically dead, it’s been able to fully heal both Optimus Prime himself and Sunstreaker from grievous wounds, has been able to magically divine information for Rodimus and Optimus, and has twice been able to purify evil forces, having cleansed Megatron of the corrupting influence of the Quintesson Pentius’s spark, and, more impressively, having completely obliterated the D-Void, the sentience of the parallel Dead Universe which was in the process of merging with the main universe, in the process restoring Cybertron to life. It's also displayed the ability to communicate with other Cybertronians across the entire endless universe, and holds such influence over reality that Optimus was able to use its concept to obliterate the conceptual realm of Infraspace, destroying pure information and returning to reality, though this shattered his piece of the Matrix.

All that said, the Matrix isn’t exactly a weapon that can be used as a big blast whenever its user wants. It has only activated in specific scenarios, with Optimus at one point being outright unable to use it as a weapon against Trypticon despite trying to, and is considered unknowable by almost every character in the series, with even characters like Optimus and Megatron themselves not really knowing what it does and questioning if it’s anything more than a pulse wave generator or symbolic item, indicating how uncommon its use as a weapon is. Its “limitless” reserves of energy can be used more generally however, with Rodimus using it to fuel his starship and make it travel all the way to Cybertron after it healed him enough that he could live without it, and it having created an energy burst which knocked out Starscream when shot. Most impressively, Rodimus and his allies were able to use their 12 Matrices to fully overload Vector Sigma and eradicate the Functionist Council bonded to Cybertron, with the sheer amount of energy discharged able to reignite Luna-1’s hot spot and produce a message on it visible from space

Firearms

Rodimus has used a wide assortment of weapons over the eons. Being an Autobot soldier he is well versed in rifles and blasters. Cybertronian weapons have a wide variety of ammunition, ranging from bullets, lasers and missiles, or blasters capable of generating heat.

Magnificence

A device that is a map of the known universe. It also doubles as a sort of magic 8 ball, any question you ask it, it will give you an accurate answer. Rodimus used it to get an answer on if Doubledealer betrayed them and it correctly answered his question.

Sword

A sword that Rodimus got when he was with the Dinobots. Not really a whole lot here since it’s just in this one page, it’s a sword that he got when in an injured state.

Bulletproof Vest

As goofy and and as it looks (Which yeah i agree), Rodimus has brought a self-made bulletproof vest from using parts of a vault. Don’t let how it looks fool you as nobody, even Omega Supreme, were unable to destroy it.

Hacking Device

Rodimus carries a hacking device, which is useful in disabling technologies like security cameras.

Decepticon Badge

Rodimus comes with a Decepticon badge that’s useful for disguising himself as the enemy and getting the jump on unsuspecting Decepticons.

Cerebro Shell

Rodimus has used a lot of random nearby equipment, one of them being this handy little thing, a cerebro shell created by the Decepticon Bombshell. Cerebro shells are capable of controlling others' minds, making them listen to his every command. This works on both humans and Cybertronians alike.

Knife

A small knife Rodimus keeps. He hasn't ever used it for combat, instead he just uses it to draw on his desk.

Ship

Rodimus has a ship that he took from Ultra Magnus that he pilots himself, the ship also includes various firearms and grenades with it as well. It also has an autopilot mode, as well as a tracker. Unfortunately, it’s not durable enough to survive rockets fired at it by the Decepticons.

Rod Pod

Rodimus’s personal vessel on the Lost Light. Not just the manifestation of his ego, but also a swift spaceship. That can travel 3 000 miles in half and hour and also has a teleport drive.

Diffuse Device

A handy small device that Wheeljack developed. This allows Wheeljack to diffuse the restraints that the government used on them to keep them trapped in their vehicle mode and enslave them.

Energon Key

For whenever he ends up in a tight spot, Rodimus has a trusty little key with a small vial of Energon that he can inject into himself. This tiny dosage managed to restore his aged body, which hadn’t had energon for entire generations and put him in a state where he could barely

even move back to his “prime” (no pun intended).

Forcefield Generator

Hot Rod was given a forcefield generator that could protect him from the effects of the Dead Universe, an omnicognant realm that kills you slowly, mainly by fooling it into thinking Rodimus was part of the Dead Universe.

Rodimus Star

An emblem Rodimus gives to his crew aboard the Lost Light for a good job. It has no tactical advantage, but it looks shiny and cool.

Abilities

Invincible

Half-Viltrumite Physiology

Viltrumites have quite a peculiar physiology that allows them to do a lot of stuff. By ”manipulating gravitons’’, Mark can remove his gravity restrictions giving him the ability to fly, with it being described as “a reflex’’ meaning it’s sort of an instinctive reaction. Mark's flight combined with his super speed also allows him to get around pretty fast, from getting across cities or even leaving Earth's atmosphere in a matter of seconds. Viltrumites also have enhanced senses, keep fighting for months without issue, and can hold their breath for up to 2 weeks. They can live for hundreds upon thousands of years and still be in peak condition, and the older they get, the slower they age, with it being stated Mark and other Viltrumites eventually just stop aging physically entirely. Mark himself was 500 years old by the time the comic had ended. Oh, and of course they have a pretty insane healing factor, so long as their heart remains intact. But it can take weeks to recover from more severe injuries. It should balance out though, as a Viltrumite’s body naturally adapts to near-death experiences and makes them stronger, which is very useful considering Mark’s long lifespan.

Shockwave Creation

Once again just by looking at the gif, Mark can generate powerful shockwaves just from moving or flying, and once clapped his hands so hard he sent out a powerful shockwave directly towards a giant sea monster sending it flying. Nolan also demonstrated this very move on Cecil, giving Mark a pretty good option if his opponent is far away or needs to attack multiple foes with an area-of-effect attack.

Stat Amplification

In Guarding The Globe, Mark has an ability called ‘Go For The Big Guy’ which is triggered at the beginning of a battle once every 25 seconds. With it, Mark’s damage increases by 5% for 5 seconds and targets the opposing enemy with the highest attack power. Also he can’t do this on his own but it's important to note Mark is far stronger than he usually is after his wife Atom Eve used her healing powers on him, stating it made him a little stronger. And that's not the only buff Eve’s given Mark! There was a time when Mark had been hit with the deadly scourge virus which removed his powers, till one day Eve and Mark had their funny business and she BONKED HIS POWERS RIGHT BACK INTO HIM… So that's lovely.

Rage State

As mentioned in Skill when Mark is on the brink of death or is just done with your crap, he’ll miraculously become a lot stronger and start fighting with a Viltrumite’s genetic brutality. Allowing him to power through any pain sent his way, whether it be strong punches, stab wounds, or the burning hot temperatures of the sun.

Smart Atoms

The reason that Viltrumites can do all the amazing powers we just listed is due to their ability to manipulate the Smart Atoms in their bodies. Smart Atoms are sort of like the atoms you and me have except they can do stuff that's pretty much impossible for our atoms, like changing the body's structure to survive certain things such as altering their lungs to hold more oxygen than regularly, sub-consciously put force fields around themselves to protect them from a variety of things or become on par with a foe over time like we said in stat amplification. They can also absorb background energy, which if used correctly can do a variety of things although its unlikely Mark could fully replicate them.

Enhanced Senses

Viltrumites have enhanced senses as stated in ’The Official Handbook Of The Invincible Universe’, and it's somewhat backed up in the show with Nolan being able to sense invisible soldiers in his house and listening in on a conversation between Debbie and Art. Even more recently, Mark’s senses were able to detect spy drones from Angstrom Levy watching him in his house.

Resistances

Mark has endured a variety of elements and abilities and lived to see another day, most likely due to his Viltrumite DNA and Smart Atoms, including…

Rodimus Prime

Cybertronian Physiology

Being robotic and having the ability to change their bodies, Cybertronians stand out from most other organisms. Their unique physiology allows them to survive things most organic species would not, such as living without a head, getting stabbed through the chest, having limbs cut clean off, continue moving with a completely mangled and weakened body and even being turned inside out (yikes). Cybertronians are very difficult to kill and are essentially immortal, being able to live and fight for millions of years. Besides that they have some other interesting attributes, such as Cybertronians being able to speak any language thanks to their programming, being unable to feel any heat or cold, are able to use/create holomatter avatars and are able to shrug off things like acid. Many of his cybernetic features include afterburners, which allow him to go faster and burn enemies like sunstreaker drones.

Arm Cannons

Located on the front sides of his wrists, Rodimus Prime can fire lasers out of his arm cannons. Rodimus’s lasers have firing speeds comparable to Optimus Prime’s Ion Blaster

Transforming

One of the most iconic tools in the Cybertronian’s tank is the ability to transform and become more than meets the eye. When it comes to Hot Rod specifically, he turns into a Chevrolet Camaro and gains the ability to move a lot faster around the battlefield.

Null Shield

With the Null Shield, Rodimus can survive a fall from orbit, but it doesn’t guarantee a safe landing.

Flame Out

True to his name, Rodmius’s fiery ability can scorch and incinerate any enemy within the vicinity in a burst of flames, though it does wear him out a bit after using it. Author James Roberts has noted this ability is not a natural Outlier power Rodimus possesses, but essentially an extreme body modification he had installed which is painful and uses up a lot of his energy, probably why he’s only used it twice.

Holomatter Projections

A projection avatar that Autobots can use to disguise themselves on alien worlds. It’s not just humans, Holomatter projections can work as a disguise of any species no matter what the world. These avatars can be projected up to 400 miles away, although this would cause immense pain. The avatars can also be adjusted in size, interact with tangible objects, and even phase through walls.

Rizz

Rodimus’s greatest skill above all else is his natural charisma. Even as a youngster he had a way with words. Convincing Orion to turn against Zeta. Optimus himself even saying Hot Rod opened his eyes which let him take on the matrix. As the war went on and Hot Rod took on more responsibility, he became quite skilled at crowd work. Amassing over two hundred bots to join his quest against the Knights of Cybertron when Prowl and Bumblebee predicted no one would show up. Even the poet turned revolutionary Megatron was surprised at his spokesmanship. Rodimus describes that he has a special “something” that lets him get away with most things. Nightbeat deduced that Rodimus and Megatron's charisma together could overwhelm overlord Personality Ticks.

Rodimus isn’t just charming, he's perceptive on how people tick. This lets him understand how to push their buttons.  During their battle with the Functionists became vital as Rodimus’s speech gave his team the belief they needed in themselves to bypass the Matrixs morality lock.

Resistances

Forms

Invincible

None notable.

Rodimus Prime

“Godimus”

That’s right, your eyes are not deceiving you, in fact, it is more than meets the eye. Rodimus has a Super Saiyan form. He managed to acquire this after getting sneak attacked, kicked around and had a fist go through his gut…oh, and had an excess amount of energon ore fill his wounds, that’s a pretty important part too. This form not only gave Rodimus a good boost in strength and speed, but also managed to heal what should have been fatal wounds, boosting his power enough that one punch tore Steeljaw’s arm off and made him fast enough that the latter couldn’t react to the attack in time, before blowing his head off.

Scaling

Invincible

Omni-Man

Mark’s stressful relationship with his father has involved many beatdowns as well as many fights in which they fought together against a common enemy. Mark has not shown relativity to his dad, but he even surpassed him by the end of the series so it’s completely reasonable to scale him to the feats performed by Mr Best-Dad-Viltrumite.

Superheroes and Supervillains

Before Mark got tied up within the Viltrum Empire, he was a regular superhero on Earth, fighting along fellow heroes and beating up bad guys. Naturally, Mark should scale to the heroes and villains of earth as he has fought enemies far more powerful than them, along with directly scaling to them either by directly beating, matching in combat, or scaling to people who do.

Coalition of Planets and Viltrum Empire

Learning about his father's origin opened a new world of foes and allies. This is for every member of the Collation of Planets, alongside the Viltrum Empire, the main antagonists of the comic.

Tech Jacket Characters (See Before the Verdict)

Among the many Image Comics crossovers Invincible has to offer, one of the most prevalent characters is the Galactic Guardian known as Tech Jacket. Unlike most of the non-canon or complicated crossovers Invincible has, Zach’s stories are in the same universe, and he frequently comes into contact with Viltrumites when need be. We’ll explain this all a bit more later, but suffice to say, we can compare Invincible to Tech Jacket.

Rodimus Prime

Megatron

The leader of the Decepticons turned Autobot himself. Megatron is always two steps ahead of his opponent with millions of years of experience waging war against his enemies to back him up. Rodimus has had his fair share of encounters with Megatron like Optimus beforehand, giving him some feats he should reasonably scale to.

Crew of the Lost Light

The crew Rodimus led on his own. Consisting of over 200 members, they went on a quest to find the fabled Knights of Cybertron. This crew consists of many bots with their own feats that Rodimus should scale to as their leader.

Autobots

The army that Optimus Prime led in war against the Decepticons that lasted for millions of years. Being a member of the Autobots since his days as Hot Rod, Rodimus should scale to his allies.

Decepticons

The faction that Megatron led for millions of years against the Autobots to rid of impure lifeforms under his own rule. Rodimus has had his fair share of encounters with some of the biggest names in the Decepticon ranks, giving him some feats he should scale to.

Dinobots

An elite team of Cybertronians soldiers that get their job done and ignore the rules. Rodimus has worked with these bots before, giving him some feats he should scale to.

Misc. Bots

Cybertron is home to many that aren’t just Autobots and Decepticons, but to a wide variety of other bots from different factions that are allies and threats alike.

Weaknesses

Invincible

Contrary to his name, Mark is not…. Quite the opposite actually. Starting off with weaknesses tied to his Viltrumite heritage, Mark’s ears are highly sensitive and his equilibrium is vulnerable through a loud enough noise or soundwave. When hit it can cause Mark to bleed, disable his flight, and weaken him. It was even said a really loud noise or exposure long enough to loud noises could kill him. Viltrumite’s are also not as strong on the inside as they are on the outside. So if they are attacked in the inside there is nothing they can do about it. Especially since their hearts are the source of their healing abilities, meaning if it’s destroyed they are dead

While Smart Atoms can adapt to almost anything (except the weaknesses we listed), it can not adapt to very high temperatures such as the Sun, as the heat rips the atomic bonds of their atoms apart. Mark did go inside the Sun to fight Thragg and they went deeper in, it was a very dangerous move and it was clear Mark would have died if Allen hadn’t come to save him, especially since it killed Thragg seconds later.

Disregarding his Viltrumite heritage, Mark has his own struggles. For one, Mark is prone to holding back out of fear that his own strength could kill someone and he refuses to kill anyone unless it is absolutely necessary. He is also very prone to getting frustrated or losing his cool if things go wrong, which results in him fighting more carelessly and bloodthirsty. Which an opponent could use to get the jump on him.

Rodimus Prime

Cybertronians, while an impressive species, are still mortal like any organic lifeform. The three most vital parts are their sparks, brain module and T-cog, which is called Rossum's Trinity. If the first two are destroyed or seriously damaged they will shortly pass away. Meanwhile If the T-Cog is destroyed and not repaired it can damage the spark over time. Cybertronians are vulnerable to electricity and prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures, and Rod’s own flame mode can wear him out after usage. Though Rodimus seems to have an unusual high resistance to heat. Fuel, or in this case energon is what they run on, and a Cybertronian’s memories begin overwriting themselves when they don’t have enough fuel and are on standby for a long period of time.

Rodimus biggest flaw however is his recklessness. Though a crafty fighter, he has a tendency to go in guns blazing, believing actions speak louder than words. This mindset has gotten him in many, many, MANY, unfortunate situations over the eons. He's made high risk gambles that easily could have gotten him and others killed, as shown when he saw an alternate version of himself who died taking out a spark eater. Combined with this recklessness is his ego. He dreams of being a great hero and craves admiration. He hates being bossed around and is envious of those given more praise than him. Though he has gotten more humble through his adventures a small part of him will always want to take the spotlight.

Before the Verdicts

That Fucking Disk That I Hate

If you read Eve VS Gwen, you might remember the Before the Verdict on the Sun Disk being a joke. This was because of multiple reasons. One, we were always planning on talking about it here. Two, getting people to agree on an end (Since it was pretty fresh after Omnidock) was tough. And three, it didn’t matter to the overall debate. Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you’re a sadist), it’s pretty important here. Quick disclaimer however, none of this is any dig on the researchers or great people who worked on the Death Battle episode of Omni-Man vs Bardock, and while this blog tries its best to be objective and definitive, at the end of the day this feat is up to lots of interpretation. Trying to figure out how to handle it was not really easy, especially for being such a hot topic issue.

Let’s start with some important context. What is the sun disk? Well, as the comic panel above shows, one of the weaknesses of the Viltrumites are Rognarrs, large lizard-like creatures that evolved to be incredibly tough due to the increased gravity of their planet, meaning that they could hurt and kill them. Since they couldn’t kill them, Nolan came up with an idea, to build a solar disk to block their sun and freeze the planet. One of the Coalition of Planets ships then destroyed this sun disk.

There are a few arguments to get characters to scale to this, but the main one is that the Coalition of Planets didn’t believe they had any weapon in their arsenal that could hurt the Viltrumites. This would extend to their ships, which wouldn’t be able to damage Viltrumites by proxy. To give this statement more back-up, the Coalition is led by Thaedus, the secret Viltrumite defector. Considering he’s a Viltrumite, he should know what harms them.

So, where does destroying this disk get?

If you’ve seen the DEATH BATTLE episode on Omni-Man VS Bardock, you would know that the sun disk was the most controversial part of the episode, due to what end it got. That end was 8,641 Quettatons Of TNT, or Star Level. Here’s the calculation used for it:

After the determined weight, the disk piece shattered, and thus the weight for kinetic energy would weigh 1.94595000E+26 kilograms.

The speed proposed gets the distance the disk shard moved (70,854 Kilometers or 44,026.634454784 miles) and then applies a 0.25 second time frame due to granting Nolan superhuman perception. Speed and mass inputted into kinetic energy earns the following formula

0.5 × mass (kilograms) × velocity (meters/second)² = value in joules

Here, it is 0.5 × 1.94595000E+26 (mass) × 283,416,000 (m/s value of 70,854 kilometers in 0.25 seconds)² = 7.81538560E+42 joules

7.81538560E+42 Joules ÷ 4.184 Gigajoules (1 Ton of TNT) = 1867.92199 Quettatons of TNT, or 186,792,199,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons

There are a few problems with the episode’s calculation. The calculation of the episode is an estimate using a mix of lagrange points (refer to the episode for what these are) and angular scaling to get the distance from the planet to the sun and the size of the disk. The problem is lagrange points are HEAVILY dependent on the mass of the planet and the mass of the star it orbits. In the episode, they try to use the mass of our planet and our sun to get the lagrange point, and then angular scaling to get the size of the sun disk. The planet would logically have gravity much stronger than Viltrum which in turn has gravity much stronger than earth, which would make its mass much higher, and thus the l1 point the episode got would be impossible.

If we apply that mass to the calculator to get the l1 point, and use angular sizing, the sun disk would be so big that the assumed timeframe would result in FTL speeds, and therefore inapplicable KE. Angular sizing is a notably unreliable method that can lead to a lot of inconsistencies. In this case, it would make the sun bigger than the initial assumed mass that was used for the lagrange point would indicate, making it contradictory.

We decided to try and reapproach the calculation, taking into account the planet having much larger mass rather than using the values of our earth and sun, which fundamentally wouldn’t work. The final tally of this recalculation would be 22.207 Ronnatons of TNT, or Dwarf Star Level

In this recalc, the mass of an exoplanet that would have gravity and mass higher than that of Viltrum and earth, and gets the size of the disk via an equation made to calculate solar eclipse shadows and moon sizes. The calculator and solar eclipse equation used can be found in the imgur link. Due to this, the value was drastically lower than before. Pixel scaling was kept, and proportions were applied accordingly to get the new numbers.

Returning to the initial question, why would someone like Invincible or even Omni-Man scale to this? Simply put, the Coalition was looking for weapons meant to kill Viltrumites, and the cannon was not considered one of them, as pointed out in the Death Battle episode, with Thaedus admitting their weapons couldn’t even hurt Viltrumites.

It is worth pointing out, this all may become outdated if they eventually show it in the episode where we get a proper time frame and more proper shots of the blast then the comic panel shown. But we hope you can at least appreciate our attempts at reexamining it in a context that is respectable.

Regarding the Tech Jacket Feats

Tech Jacket is a relatively untouched bit of Invincible’s story, which makes sense, since he isn’t focused on much in it. Have no fear though, as this should serve to correct that.

Starting on why Tech Jacket is canon, not only have characters he’s met in Invincible explicitly mentioned the species where his armor comes from, aka Geldarians, but in Tech Jacket Digital, we get a direct mention of the Guardians of The Globe and see Robot’s robots in the final chapter which came into commission between the 1 year time gap. Zach’s mom notes how he has grown a beard which we can see is bigger than his beard during the First Viltrumite War, placing most of the comics before the First Viltrumite War. Both angles pretty solidly place him in the Invincible universe on both angles, and once that’s been settled, there’s the matter of scaling him to Invincible. He has frequently fought Viltrumites across the series, like alternative Invincibles (he matched them, was acknowledged inferior in stats, but still won through overloading his suits power systems), and various other examples across the series. This also includes aiding other warriors in attack power like Allen the Alien and Oliver, or fighting top-tier threats like Liu’s Dragon, along with outright statements from Zach that Invincible and Omni-Man are both stronger and faster than him. Generally, all of the examples either portray Tech Jacket as comparable or inferior to a Viltrumite like Mark, so scaling and even upscaling is pretty concrete. So, let’s talk about that scaling!

Tech Jacket has some pretty impressive feats, like throwing a ship into the sun in seconds at faster than light speeds, or surviving absolutely enormous explosions in space. The two highest feats in his series are that of a planet eater claiming he consumes planets to empower himself, and one universal Immune System (oh boy).

We will be having two analyses over this, the first one will be discussing arguments in favour of the scaling and the second one will be going over arguments against the scaling.

Arguments in favour of the Scaling:

Null Scaling:

So, starting with Null scaling and why Zach, and in turn Mark and other Viltrumites scale to it.

On paper it might seem like it makes no sense considering Null beated the living daylights  out of him on their first encounter and their second encounter  but there is more to it than that. Firstly, during their first encounter, although Zach was pretty brutally beaten by him, he did manage to somewhat keep up his own against him, much better than the Planet Eater who got one-shotted instantly. This is important because Null was specifically hired to kill and retrieve Zach’s Tech Jacket by the guy hiring him and Null is the type of guy who aims to finish his job immediately, hence why he went for the kill immediately when he fought Zach. Secondly, during their second encounter, an enraged Null was capable of tearing apart Zach easily despite the fact that he got healed and enhanced beyond known maximum capacity upon merging with him  while he had a hole in his chest and badly damaged in an earlier issue, by one of the scout ships of The Colossal, a Sentient Geldarian Super Weapon Fleet which was gathering champions from the entire universe in order to combat the Universe’s Immune System or UIS, which as the name implies, is the Universe’s Immune System which destroys Planets and Galaxies whenever it deems them too dangerous for the Universe. (We’ll get to this pretty soon).

So how does Zach scale to Null then? Well, Null got killed by a swarm of UIS drones right after the fight. After that, Zach fused into The Colossal along with Tech Jacket Corps (robots designed after his Tech Jacket), all of the champions that Thee Colossal had gathered, and his Geldarian friends. After this, they went on to survive a direct blast from The Core of the UIS multiple times together while the core wanted to survive and then the core of the Colossal even individually. The latter, along with the earlier example of The Colossal increasing strength upon merger proves that Zach got stronger upon fusion, meaning he should now upscale Null and his feats pretty easily.

Colossal and Immune System Scaling:

So Let's start with some context. The Colossal was a Super weapon created by the Geldarians who were warned about the arrival of a threat which wiped out the earliest galaxies (The Immune System of The Universe). However, it evolved and gained consciousness, and then it created a plan to exterminate the next invasion of this threat. That plan? Turning the galaxy into a weapon and firing at the Immune System. Now, there are a few issues that people have with this. Let's tackle them.

  1. “The statements come from Zach who was saying random shit”

Well for context, at the moment Zach was talking about this with Lin (his girlfriend) and Xi (his girlfriend's girlfriend, it's a long story). He and Xi were at each other's throat because of Zach being jealous of her and because of that he was intentionally repeating known information to her just to annoy her. This didn't stop at that, they were even having fights while fighting some mutated hybrid warriors of the Colossal which ended up forcing Lin to stop them. So how does this matter? Well, Xi confirmed that what Zach was saying is true despite being very annoyed by him, replying to his statement with “Precisely”, which wouldn't have happened if it was false.

Why would she agree to a false statement by someone who was on bad terms with her at a time when the entire galaxy was at threat and was actively annoying her? It wouldn't make any sense logically and even in the context. Therefore, we can't call them random shit or spitballing given the context and the situation at the moment.

  1. “It was only using the sun as the fuel source”

This one is because of a confusion caused by some statements in the comics. Let's tackle them.

First of all, “armed by your sun” by itself doesn't mean that it is only using the sun, it’s more so a general statement in the context, said by Xi to make Zach realize the urgency/scope of the situation because right before this he wasn't taking things seriously, rather he was more focused on the tension between him, Lin and Xi. So, it is not really valid enough to be used as an argument against it.

While it is true that Lin refers to the sun as "the trigger", this does not necessarily mean the sun is the sole power source of the Colossal. The term "trigger" itself implies an initiating mechanism rather than the entirety of the weapon's fuel or function, which even makes sense with the context. The solar system is the place where the attack on the Milky Way galaxy will begin by the UIS and it is the last place which the scout ship visits before using the sun as the final trigger to initiate its plan.

Additionally, "commencing weaponizing the sun" is referring to initiating the plan and absorbing the sun’s energy for the process. This does not preclude the Colossal from drawing power from other sources as well. The Colossal is a massive superweapon capable of repurposing entire celestial bodies and spanning an entire solar system, and it has travelled across galaxies to collect champions strong enough to protect the weapon. Even logically speaking, it doesn't really make much sense for a super intelligent AI which can travel across the universe easily to harness only one star’s energy to combat an entire legion of galaxy wiping energy. Furthermore, it didn't even absorb all of the sun’s energy, as we clearly know that the sun is there and will be there for at least the next 500 years, meaning it would be even weaker and ineffective against its enemy.

Thus, Lin's statement is not definitive proof that the Colossal exclusively used the sun; rather, it aligns with the idea that the sun was an important aspect of its weaponization but not necessarily the entirety of its power system.

Regarding Zach’s own statements, the first one was said by him in a joking sense in order to calm himself down. Moments before this he and Xi were trying to calm things down after Lin scolded them but then after Lin told him that the UIS are here, he says that “It’s a lot to take in” and then says “Just got the entire fate of Earth’s Galaxy in our hands, No Big Deal” to calm himself down. The line itself is also spoken in the same way as “Oh do we even have any backup plan instead of just this one?”. The second statement said by him is, similarly to Xi’s explanation, a general statement said by him towards the people of earth as Xi was recording him for earth’s people to see.

Overall, neither of these statements should be taken at face value because they weren't meant to be in the first place.

This one is pretty easy to explain. The Colossal itself refers to "auxiliary weaponry”, which explicitly limits the sun’s role to only the auxiliary weapons, not the Colossal's entire power source. "Auxiliary" by definition refers to secondary or supplementary systems, meaning that while the sun may contribute energy to some of its weapons, it is not the core power source of the entire Colossal.

Additionally, the main weaponry here will obviously be the limbs as that's what they are mainly using to combat the swarm, Colossal explicitly states that “Xi controls our combat, our limbs imitating her actions” which further cements this idea. If the Colossal were solely dependent on one sun, its capabilities would be severely limited, which contradicts its nature as a universe-traveling superweapon built to counter a force that wiped out galaxies.

Thus, this statement actually supports the idea that the sun is just one of many energy sources rather than the exclusive one, making it ineffective as an argument against the Colossal having additional power sources.

So, it is pretty clear that these arguments either fall apart due to context or, in the case of the last one, actually end up supporting what they are trying to debunk. Now that it’s established that the Colossal is using all of the stars in our galaxy as a fuel source, how much energy would that be?

Using our own sun’s average energy output as a baseline and assuming the Colossal is only utilizing a single day’s worth of energy—which is a lowball, but let’s go with it—our galaxy contains approximately 100 billion to 400 billion stars.

The sun releases 3.8 × 10^26 joules of energy per second, and a day consists of 86,400 seconds.

Plugging in the numbers, we find that the energy output of the weapon would be between 3.2832 × 10^42 Joules and 1.31328 × 10^43 Joules, which is equivalent to 784.7 Quettatons to 3,138.8 Quettatons of TNT, placing it at Large Star level.

How does Zach scale to this? Well that's simple. Zach gave The Colossal the idea to fuse together to defeat the Immune System and as seen earlier, fusion increases the power of the people combining and even provides healing. Zach had lost his arm prior to fusion and his armour was broken but after combining it gets repaired in the next pages and his arm also comes back.

We can see an even bigger example of this when Zach and his friends survive blasts from the Core of the Colossal individually, even Xi survived it in the top of the panel further cementing the scaling to Colossal and UIS. Keep in mind, Zach asked Colossal to translate what the UIS core was saying and when it did that, they noticed that it was a one track mind and all it wanted was to survive. It was scared for its life. An argument against this is that they didn't tank the full powered blasts of the core which is…what??? It is blatantly shown that the core wanted to survive, why would it not use its full power against the people whom it considers as a threat to its life? It's like saying that if a person is scared for their life, they wouldn't use all of their might to stop the ones who are trying to him. It makes no logical sense.

Now let's discuss the efficiency of the UIS.

Well as you know, there are multiple statements regarding the UIS state that destroying planets and galaxies, but an argument exists that it only destroys all the planets in the galaxy thus destroying it, similar to Planet Eater. However, the terms “galaxy” or “galaxies” is very evidently used in case of UIS multiple times, rather than a single statement for Planet Eater. And if you didn't know, destroying all of the planets of a galaxy does not destroy the galaxy. Not even close. For example, the total mass of all the planets in our galaxy combined would still be less than 0.1% of the total mass of our galaxy. So no, destroying all the planets in a galaxy is not enough to destroy the galaxy itself.

In the story, the UIS destroyed Geldaria and they were about to destroy the entire Milky Way galaxy, all in under a week. The hundreds of years long time periods are the time periods between their attacks, basically they destroy another galaxy and then go on to destroy another after hundreds of years once it becomes dangerous to the universe in their eyes. We see this in the series when they attack again 30,000 years later, this time striking from Alpha Centauri System. So they can wipe out galaxies in a few weeks at most, and the core should naturally scale or even upscale it. Hopefully this clears things up.

Now, where would this scale Zach? Well, using the GBE of our Milky Way Galaxy or 7.5349263e+53 Joules then lowballing it and saying that it takes 3 weeks (or 1.814e+6 seconds) to destroy it, it would still be 4.1537631e+47 Joules or 4153 FOE or Solar System level.

How does Mark scale to this?

As mentioned earlier, Zach himself states that he isn't anywhere near as strong as Mark or Nolan, and the UIS events take place before the First Viltrumite War. And even during the Viltrumite war, Zach’s latest armour was destroyed easily by other Viltrumites which means that Mark, Nolan and other stronger Viltrumites should easily scale to these feats, even more so for Mark during the end of the series or even at the end of the Second Viltrumite War.

A question might arise regarding why the UIS didn't attack the Viltrumites if its entire purpose was to stop species which are too dangerous for the universe? Well, it started its onslaught with the Milky Way galaxy and more specifically with the Solar System. There is no reason to think that it wouldn't have gone out to attack the Viltrum empire and other galaxies, had it won the battle.

(Also from a meta perspective, Tech Jacket wouldn't be the hero of his own series if someone like Mark or Nolan ended up making a cameo in his own series.)

Arguments against the Scaling:

Starting off with the planet eater, some have attempted to use this as mass/energy conversion in an attempt to get this much higher than it should be (when we are given no proof of such) so the best route would be covering how much energy Earth’s geothermal output gives off. This would be 3 Zettatons, though one could also highball it by using Earth’s GBE and get 59.44 Zettatons (the threat was also credited as one to the galaxy, but this likely meant over time due to consumption and getting stronger through that). Actually scaling Tech Jacket to this is where it gets sketchy, as the so-called “planet eater” gets fraud-checked like Omnipotus by a bounty hunter named Null. The way that comes into play is that Null has fought Tech Jacket after the fact, so a potential scaling chain could be Tech Jacket = Null > Planet Eater, right? No, actually. Very much no

For starters, let us reaffirm that Null 100% scales to the Planet Eater, as he tore right through him. What is really the issue here is that Null absolutely decimated Tech Jacket when they fought, to the point that he had to BFR him to win while as bloody as Invincible’s average Viltrumite fight. You’d think such a threat would earn a heroic runback, and you’d be right, they did fight again… with the same result, but worse. In their second duel, Null was actively pissed at being BFR’d like that, and proceeded to pretty much kill Tech Jacket in the span of one page. Tech Jacket literally said “oh no” in a whisper, like he knew how badly he was going to get mollywhopped. He clearly does not scale to Null in any major capacity, and actually applying this to Invincible is even more illogical. Even in any of the Viltrumite fights he’s been in, where he fully acknowledged they were stronger and faster than him, none of them messed him up to this degree, or earned his fear in such a manner. Since Tech Jacket got destroyed the most he’s ever been, and we have no example of anybody in Invincible dealing that same kind of damage, scaling to Null in either case doesn’t work. Now, let’s talk about the Immune System.

“What’s the Immune System?” It is basically cancer for the universe, for lack of a better description. In essence, once the universe was formed from the Big Bang, the creatures of it grew beyond what nature intended through greed and the miscellaneous “all flesh-bags are evil” types of things. So, a “cure” was born that was formed to destroy those that evolved beyond the universe’s goal, as a sort of failsafe against those who would endanger existence. In action, this acts like a living super-virus that kills planets. One could expect this to get massive numbers, but this only really affects planets one at a time; killing galaxies over time due to existing for who knows how long. In general, it is just a planet level threat. Of course, the more impressive thing is the weapon used to fight it, a “galaxy-sized bazooka.” In truth, this is actually a weapon fueled by the power of our star, and it alone.

The cannon's only statements of being “galaxy-sized” come from Tech Jacket himself guesstimating when he knows little if not nothing about how the machine works, which isn’t a solid argument in any major capacity. He’s also actively talking his ass off to anger another character he was arguing with in one of those instances, so keep that in mind. That is furthered when you look at the characters later, like the weapon itself and people intertwined with it like Princess Lin, all stating it is powered by the sun period.

  1. Xi (a Geldarian with a Tech Jacket like Zach, and someone more reputable than Zach in this instance) directly states it is armed by our sun, with images showcasing it to be true.

  2. Lin (a key component of the weapon) and the Colossals (what the weapon is made of) directly state the trigger of the weapon is the sun, period.

  3. Later, when more informed about the plan, Zach (the entire basis for the argument of it being galaxy-sized given his half-assed statements) switches to saying it’s weaponing our solar systemtwice.

  4. We are outright shown the weapon is fueled from the sun specifically and it alone.

  5. The Colossals themselves state this outright: “Princess Lin commands our Auxiliary weaponry charged by your sun.”

So, it should become clear that it is only powered by our sun and it alone. What would that get? The energy output of the sun is 3.8 x 10^26 joules per second, and multiplied by 604,800 (3,600 x 24 x 7, or the seconds in an hour, than day, than week) lands 2.2982400 x 10^32 Joules, or 54.9292543 Zettatons of TNT. So, how would Tech Jacket scale to this? That’s the neat part, he doesn’t.

The Giant robot is composed of the Tech Jacket Corps (an army of Tech Jacket suits) and other weapons like the sun cannon as the core for one “big-ass Tech Jacket.” The actual combination had this all combined together in a virtual Super Saiyan Megazord form of Tech Jacket with Zach as the pilot, using the sun’s power and the 55 Zettaton energy. It then fought the Immune System in a death match, and tanked its best attacks, which should compare to the robots own power. So, the robot in full scales, but It should go without saying why Tech Jacket on his own would not compare to this given all that it required, when it’s not even his body, nor his power source. This relates back to Null, as a small piece of the Immune System restrained and dragged in Null, which resorted to actual damage done to him. He later got out, and while a bit injured, had his round 2 and full healthbar sweep of Tech Jacket. Heck, he himself states that the first time he was holding back due to needing Zach in one piece, and when he was actually trying, he killed him in seconds. The giant robot also just one-shot Null right after he pasted Zach there to begin with, which is just overkill in favor of him not scaling to it.

The final argument to go over is Zach and other Tech Jacket suits taking energy while inside this giant robot and trying to escape. Frankly, this also falls through. This happened because an AI named Stanley took control of the giant robot and while working out its systems, internal defense measures were applied against the group as they tried to escape. As Stanley puts it, the Colossal is afraid and retaliating, as in, it is not his doing. It is simply natural defense and fear (which itself would diminish as Stanley furthers it) but there’s also the matter that even so this would not mean he scales. Blocking minor blasts from a mere speck of a kaiju robot's body would not carry the entire energy powering it… at all. Nothing ever indicates that. Even if it somehow carried that much energy, Zach’s shields were diminished by 30% with each hit, and it was clear he would die with the others if Stanley didn’t stop the blasts.

So in short, Null scales to a low-baseline planetary foe and completely destroyed Tech Jacket both times they fought (did much more damage than any Viltrumite ever did), making his scaling nonexistent. The Colossal robot form harnessed similar energy through our sun (and only it given the clear statements as opposed to Zach’s early uneducated statements) but Zach doesn’t scale it whatsoever given the circumstances required to make it, what it is, how it destroyed Null, and even minor energy inside it almost killed him. Neither comparison of scaling works, and actually scaling Invincible to these falls through due to that, Tech Jacket still has some mighty impressive feats, but these are entirely unusable.

What is Transformers Canon?

If there is one thing Transformers is known for in the vs community it is how convoluted the canon is. Despite sticking to one continuity in this blog we are still gonna have to talk about timelines. So let's start with the basics and then explain what exactly Rodimus is getting. Unlike a lot of franchises Transformers doesn't have a clear canon and non canon distinction. Instead the franchise has hundreds of different continuities that are all canon to the same multiverse. Even contradictory toy bios or variant covers are canon in some way in the larger Transformers multiverse. This can make what you would actually give these characters hard and up for debate. When everything is equally canon it's not as simple as only focusing on the original source. Especially when there are various crossovers between the canons.

For this blog we are focusing on the IDW 1 comic continuity, which ran from 2005 to 2018. Unlike most Transformers continuities this one doesn't have many splinter timelines so it's easy to cut it off from the rest of the multiverse. The closest thing to an adaptation for this canon is the machinima Prime Wars series. Which borrowed many ideas, themes and characters from the IDW verse. We have chosen to not include it as while it may share some ideas Prime Wars quickly becomes its own series and veers wildly off course. It's hard to justify giving Prime Wars and not other continuities that take from IDW like Cyberverse and JG1.

So without using Prime Wars we just need to worry about one timeline, right?

Wrong, because this isn't any normal Transformer. This is Rodimus Prime who has two big stories to talk about.

In the comic series Regeneration One (A sequel to the original Marvel comic continuity) Marvel Rodimus Prime is fighting a creature known as The Dark Matrix. To make a long story short, the monster planned on infecting every single universe in the multiverse. Needing backup Rodimus Prime used the Covenant of Primus to summon every single version of himself across the multiverse. With IDW Rodimus leading the charge and fighting the monster. While only a brief cameo and IDW Rodimus himself never refers to it. Remember that basically everything is canon to Transformers so it is likely that this is supposed to be the IDW Rodimus so it should be included. The other big crossover is Last Bot Standing. A mini series in the far future about an old Rodimus fighting off the remaining Cybertronians. This may seem like a weird thing to include for a IDW Rodimus blog but there is context we need to look into. The comic is intentionally vague about what happened in the war and what exactly happened. It references Prime, Car Robots, Animated, Neo Beast Wars, and IDW in particular. This Rodimus recalls the Lost Light during a conversation, goes by Rodimus just like IDW, and there are two variant covers for Last Bot Standing which features characters from IDW, such as Megatron and Ultra Magnus in their IDW designs, Windblade, and even other Lost Light crew members like Nautica. The writer Nick Roche in a tweet in regard to which timeline it was canon said it was to all of them or none of them. With all that evidence listed we feel that giving Last Bot Standing is only fair since it can fit in with pretty much any Rodimus and especially IDW.

Universal IDW Feats?

In the IDW canon, there have been some feats that have been deemed by some as Uni level feats. Such feats being Nova Prime stating that he’s in control of the Dead Universe, Thunderwing being “a threat to the entire universe”, and Micronus Prime creating the Microspace, which is its own universe. However, these feats have flaws in them, which mainly comes down to context. Micronus Prime creating their own universe is impressive, but there’s no evidence to suggest that his own universe is straight up comparable to the size of an actual universe.

As for Nova Prime’s control of the Dead Universe, while his reality warping power is nothing to scoff at, there’s no evidence to suggest it makes him straight up universal. In fact, in his fight against Optimus Prime, he was defeated by him in a physical brawl. This implies that Nova Prime’s supposed universal level reality warping powers don’t apply to his physical strength. There’s also the fact that Nova Prime manipulating the Dead Universe mainly comes from his experience residing there and learning from it. Nova Prime even admits that the smaller the universe becomes, the easier it is to control. This creates problems with Nova Prime being universal because if he struggles to control the Dead Universe at its full size and needs it to be smaller, then that means the argument of him being universal is not 100% correct.

For Thunderwing being “a threat to the entire universe”, there are two issues with this. The first being that Optimus Prime was likely being hyperbolic since the situation they were in was dire and Cybertron was close to exploding because of him. The second issue being that according to the bio on Thunderwing’s Titans Return toy, it states that he’s able to make Seismic Waves spanning the entire universe. But there’s not enough supporting evidence in IDW to back up this statement, let alone that Titans Return is canon to IDW as there are many characters in the toyline that don’t match with their comic counterparts in design (such as Megatron, Optimus and even Thunderwing himself), so we can’t rule Thunderwing being Uni based on this description.

Does Hot Rod scale to Hot Rod?

As mentioned in the Transformers canon section, in Transformers Regeneration One Issue 100, every version of Rodimus, led by G1 Marvel Rodimus, comes together to fight the Dark Matrix creature. This includes IDW Rodimus, whose appearance is only brief. Together they all hold off the Dark Matrix creature, and IDW Rodimus even gets caught in this attack from the Dark Matrix creature that shrugs off all the Rodimuses. This gives off the implication that IDW Rodimus is comparable to other Rodimuses throughout the Transformers multiverse, so does this mean he scales to them?

From what we can gather, the answer to this question is no. Given his brief appearance here, only firing a few shots from his arm cannons, and the fact that we don’t see IDW Rodimus recover from the attack, it’s unlikely he scales to other Rodimuses from other Transformers continuities. Now an argument could be provided that this is an extreme high end feat for IDW Rodimus, but at that point the scaling here becomes an outlier for them. He would shoot up from being a B Tier fighter to an S Tier fighter just like that.

Stats

Invincible and Transformers have a lot of firepower. With intergalactic empires on the loose, the galaxy and its many planets are in danger, but just how powerful are these Viltrumites and Cybertronians? Let’s go over the best of their feats in strength and speed and see where it lands us, as they will be very important in the debate.

Starting with Invincible, from the moment Mark got his powers, he’s been able to perform some insane feats. His punches can cause shockwaves, he can fly straight through battleships, and his fists have drawn blood from some of the universe's heaviest of hitters, from Allen the Alien to Conquest to the Grand Admiral Thragg himself. His fight with Allen has cratered the moon, he’s flown straight through nuclear weapons, and has stopped asteroids that threatened the entire country. And these are just feats from his early outings! As the series of Invincible progresses, Mark has shown that he can perform some top tier feats, and fight some top tier people.

He’s faced down against many Viltrumites, who are consistently stated to be capable of tearing apart entire planets, destroying them and leaving no home to go back to. And Mark himself showed similar feats. Along with Thaedus and his dad Omni-Man, they destroyed planet Viltrum by flying straight through it, destroying the entire planet. Based on the fact that Viltrum’s size is overall larger than Earth, and the destruction of its ejected mass on the other side, and its overall destruction, this is a feat that would be 875.55 Zettatons of TNT, or Planet Level. When including the disco solar, Mark would be much stronger, given the Coalition’s ships couldn’t hurt Viltrumites yet destroy a solar disc that could block out the Sun from Rognarr, Mark would now reach 22.207 Ronnatons of TNT, or Dwarf Star Level.

Moving onto Rodimus, he’s taken on a few all-timers himself. He’s easily capable of toppling over Decepticons and Autobots alike, lifting tanks or machines over his head, and blasting through some tough motherfuckers like Razor Claw, Megatron, and Overlord. Megatron is capable of leveling cities, and Overlord’s unstoppable might could shave off an inch of the planet, which yields to 663.72 Gigatons of TNT, enough power to reach Island Level. These powerful Decepiticons have fought Tarn, fellow Decepticon who was powerful enough to break through Megatron’s panic bubble. For reference, this panic bubble could contain an antimatter explosion that would have destroyed half of Necroworld, which would yield at least 1 Zettaton of TNT, aka Small Planet Level.

Overall, whether you include the sun disk (derogatory) or not, Mark will end up stronger than Rodimus by a good bit with the feats he scales too. No matter if you take Mark towards the end of the overall main conflict or just him when he’s 500 years old, he would massively upscale in some way. Overall, Invincible takes the edge in raw strength. But what about speed?

Looking at Mark, he has consistently shown how fast he can be. He can move faster than a teleporter and go up to mach speeds that reach into the hundreds or even thousands. Mark is capable of flying to Mars in four days, which is around Mach 663.241, and he has shown to have fast reaction speeds with him catching baseballs flown around the earth at Mach 6491. But looking at who Mark scales to, his father has shown speeds up to Mach 6749.473 when he caused large explosions on the Flaxan planet. Taking this a step further, Mark’s journey from Thraxa to Telescria occurred in a very short timeframe, and while the exact timeframe was never specifically stated, given how far away those planets are, this would still put Mark at billions of times FTL. He’s also much more powerful than most, if not all Viltrumites by the end of the series, and a group of them flew the Virgo Supercluster to Thraxa in under a day, which would be about 20 Billion C, or Massively Faster Than Light. As with strength, Mark should upscale this no matter what point you take him towards the end of the series.

In comparison, the speed feats Rodimus has are good, but not as impressive. He has consistently shown to avoid laser fire and missiles shot at him. He’s also shown good reactionary feats like when Dealer and Getaway tried to sneak attack him, he saw them coming and retaliated. When going Godimus, he can move so fast his enemies barely have time to react to him.

Scaling to one of his Autobot allies, Prowl, who is able to observe 800 moving objects and compute their travel speed in 0.5 seconds, which is around Mach 6064.1 to 41.6 c or Faster Than Light, giving Rodimus a good reactionary speed feat to scale to. Another Autobot Rodimus scales to is Omega Supreme, who flew from Cybertron to Earth at around 4,996,990.3 c to 832,829.5 c. Looking at another Cybertronian, this one from the side of the Decepticons, Astrotrain, his traveling speed is fast enough to move 640 Light Years from Earth. So Rodimus would also scale to Massively Faster Than Light

In this comparison, Invincible once again pulls ahead, being many millions of billions of times faster than light, putting Mark in the blitzing range of Rodimus when it comes to how fast they are.

Arsenal/Abilities

Rodimus is the only one really with an arsenal, unless you count the environment for Invincible, but this is the bulletproof vest Rodimus Prime we’re going up against, so Mark’s gonna need a bit more than debris or buildings to win here. Starting off with the Matrix of Leadership, which should seemingly be an important part here as its applications have allowed other Autobots some insane feats. The Matrix is a powerful item that can purify the D-Void and reignite entire planets. Its mere concept was able to let Optimus and Bumblebee escape the realm of pure information known as Infraspace. However, we need to understand what the Matrix is. It is not a weapon but a symbol of hope. Its best showings are purifying the D-Void but one that is arguably not really related to attack potency, and even then the Matrix only worked because it wanted to be used. The Matrix has a mind of its own and is only used to attack something when a cosmic threat is happening. Even escaping Infraspace wasn't the Matrix itself, but the concept of it. The Matrix has never been used as a big blast attack so Rodimus simply couldn't just shoot a big laser and wipe out Mark.

The Matrix simply can't be used as an offensive weapon. So what can it do? Well, the Matrix can be used to heal Rodimus and give him energy. This wouldn't be up to Rodimus when it would but it has done so when he was in critical condition before. His energon key is also able to provide a means to restore his health and injuries, and if he takes any notable damage from Invincible in the fight, it can be a trick up his sleeve that gives him another chance at staying in the fight. The forcefield generator could also be a very useful defensive option against Mark’s onslaught, though with Mark’s strength advantage, how long it holds may be in question.

What about Hot Rod’s other weapons? Pretty much everything else Rodimus can throw at Mark isn’t going to do much. His firearms certainly make him more versatile alone then Mark’s more straightforward flying brick style, but it's nothing Mark hasn’t already seen before, and given he is much stronger, he won’t be slowed down by anything like lasers or the Ultra Magnus ship missiles, especially with his level of strength and durability. Other technology like the decepticon badge or hacking device provide little use, and Mark only really uses a telepathic earpiece, and nothing earth shattering would happen if that just got disabled. Perhaps the biggest potential wincon is the cerebro shell, which has the ability to mind control someone if eaten. At first glance, this would leave Mark in huge trouble since he doesn’t really have resistances to mind control, except there’s one issue; the cerebro shell is pretty big, and would not really fit in Mark’s mouth since he is human-sized (kinda gruesome to imagine Rod trying it anyways though), and in the context of the comic, it was really just something he picked up cause it was lying next to him in a Decepticon base, and may hardly be considered standard. Nevermind the fact that Mark’s stats means it’ll be pretty hard to get Mark in a position where Rod can even attempt to use it in any capacity, being way too fast and strong enough that he won’t be pinned down easily.

Now let’s talk about their abilities. Invincible, while fairly limited, has a good degree of abilities that help him remain battle-hardened. His half-Viltrumite physiology lets him adapt to near death experiences, grow stronger through battle, fly at high speeds, and recover from injuries that would kill any normal human being. Rodimus on the other hand has a lot more direct firepower, being able to summon the null shield when tanking impactful blows and can generate excessive amounts of heat in his flame mode, or heal his wounds with energon ores when entering his Godimus mode. Similar to Mark, he also has surprisingly good survivability, being able to fight without limbs or even live without a head. Comparing these abilities, while it may not look like it at first, there’s some distinct advantages one has over the other.

Flame mode is an ability that undoubtedly looks dangerous when paired against Invincible. Viltrumites such as Thragg have died to prolonged exposure to heat, ripping apart their atoms the longer they are exposed to it, and Mark himself would have nearly died in the sun if he wasn’t rescued by Allen. But the sun is one extreme compared to other showings of Mark resisting heat-based attacks such as being unscathed by Furnace’s fire attacks, and you can even say that even if he was going to die in the sun eventually, the fact that he was able to fight in it for as long as he did is impressive in its own right. Rod’s flame mode does not give off so much heat to be comparable to something as hot as the sun, which is about 10,000 degrees fahrenheit.

And even if the flames did affect Mark, there is another thing to consider, that being Mark’s survivability. Compared to being in the actual sun, Mark isn’t going to be engulfed by nearly as much heat as a celestial body, and worse case scenario, his rage state can simply kick in and allow him to keep fighting, which we even saw happen in the fight against Thragg in the sun. It’s very likely that Mark can fight through the flames and persevere through the fight, but the next obstacle of course would be Mark’s answer to Godimus, a similar state where Rod not only gets stronger and faster, but even heals all of his wounds. What’s Mark’s answer to that? To be blunt, he just has to hit him…really hard.

Mark is ultimately still stronger and still millions of times faster than Rod, and when both of them are pushed to their limits, some cracks start to show. Sure, Rod will heal his wounds while Mark’s would take up to weeks to heal, but Mark still retains his strength and speed advantage just enough that eventually, he should be able to overwhelm Rodimus with brute force, be it ripping off limbs or targeting his weak spots such as the brain module. Hot Rod’s healing factor can be pretty easily overtaxed here since as far as we’ve seen, all he’s ever done was heal small wounds, rather than full blown regenerating his head or arms back, so Invincible eventually overpowers Rodimus, even if it means being pushed to the brink of death, which even then you could argue against due to Mark’s own resistances to heat.

Tertiary Factors

Both Mark and Hot Rod take some distinct advantages in this section. Overall, Invincible has experience with the type of fighter Rodimus is, having fought through hordes of aliens with laser weaponry like the Flaxan, so there won’t be too many surprises for Invincible. But, Invincible is cleanly outshined when it comes to battle experience. Even with Mark reaching over 500 years of age and possibly living up to thousands of years at the end of the comics, it's still comparing thousands of years to millions of years for someone like Rodimus Prime, who has spent pretty much most of his lifetime training and in combat with Decepticons and Cyberwraiths, only having the most elite training the Autobots have to offer.

In terms of sheer battle intelligence, Mark has his moments, but Rodimus should also take this category. Both have plenty of improvisational strategies, but Rodimus is far more of a leader and has more showings of militaristic strategy, and millions of years of these types of battles means that Rodimus won’t really see any surprises from Invincible either. He relies on smarts way more in battle where he can, though you can argue that the gap lessens ever so slightly if you account for Mark at the end of the series as the Emperor of Viltrum, though he would still be behind by a good few million years. Overall, Rodimus Prime should be smarter and eons more experienced.

Conclusion

“I wouldn't try that... I'm Invincible.”

Advantages:

  • Stronger no matter what ends you buy

  • Millions of times faster

  • Resistances to high heat conditions like the sun mean he could survive flame mode

  • Rage boost and survivability favor him against Godimus and could overtax him

  • Similar tactics and combat prowess

  • Has plenty of experience against firearms, laser weaponry, and most of Rod’s weapons

  • Suffering builds character

  • The animation is fine shut up nerds (we wrote this very early on)

    • The Conquest fight brought it back

Disadvantages:

“Okay, so you've made some bad decisions. You've hurt people. You've hurt yourself. You've stumbled through life from one self-inflicted disaster to the next without anything even approaching a plan. To which I say—welcome aboard. Maybe you're not good... but you're sure as hell good enough.”

Advantages:

Disadvantages:

  • Slightly weaker and way slower

  • Cerebro shell does not work on Mark

  • Has weak points like the brain module and spark

  • His survivability, while similar to Mark’s doesn’t favor him against most fatal injuries

  • “Out of the way, Hot Rod!”

  • Said sus once

In the end, Invincible pushes through in this turbulent fight. He has the necessary strength and blitzing speed to be able to eventually win this fight. While Rodimus has more battle experience and battle IQ, his weaponry and abilities fall short against Invincible, who can survive the heat of flame mode and if push comes to shove, get even stronger when enraged, being able to thoroughly put down Rodimus eventually and overwhelm his ability to heal wounds, all the while being able to tank virtually everything Rodimus can throw at him, or simply avoid it by being faster. Though Rod could transform the tide of the battle, it didn’t matter as long as Mark was living up to his name of being…

The winner is .

Invincible VS IDW Transformers Retrospective

We wanted to take this time at the end of the blog to talk about the other matchups of its kind, as this franchise pairing works far better than anyone expected. The story parallels, the themes and the tone that Invincible and IDW Transformers share are around the same ballpark, even right down to the gore. It got to a point where it sparked a few notable matchups that are worth discussing, and we’ll talk some time to go over three notable matches, what they could offer, and how they go outcome-wise.

Conquest VS Overlord

Connections: Ruthless alien soldiers that are considered one of the strongest of their races, and served as the musclebound enforcers of an intergalactic empire hellbent on subjugating the known universe. But they’re not doing it for the cause, they’re doing it for the slaughter. While their appearances throughout the story are rather sparse, the impact they left on the characters and the audience is anything but.

Sirus: Juggernaut VS Overlord is absolutely sick, but if we’re only focusing on the IDW version, it's not debatable at all. But his JG1 counterpart, while not having much fanfare, is actually debatable and Juggernaut arguably loses. So why not just composite the two? Well, let’s just say the soft composite issue with Megatron in his episode will seem far, far less drastic compared to this. On the other hand, while Nappa and Jasper are decent choices for Conquest, they don’t even come close to the sheer levels of brutality that people are looking for in a Conquest episode, and this iteration of Overlord has that in spades. Not to mention, out of all the matchups we discussed here, this is the Viltrumite vs Cybertronian matchup where it can go all the way with the violence and destruction, no holds barred.

Saul: This is my favourite. For those who don’t know, Conquest is my favourite Invincible character, but I’ve never vibed with much of his spread. Nappa was good but when Omnidock happened, it killed all personal need for another Invincible VS Dragon Ball episode. I’m not a fan of Jasper vs Conquest at all, so when I heard about this? I instantly hopped onto this as my preference.

Landon1195: This seems like an interesting matchup. Got a cool theme and it would be a cool fight. Personally I still prefer Nappa for Conquest and Juggernaut for Overlord, but this is still cool.

KaijuConvoy: The theme’s simple and gets the gist of both down pretty well, can tap into the utter brutality and sheer destructiveness of both series’ the best out of the entire series combo, and would just be a really fun fight.

Iceking: very cool, while I still do prefer juggernaut for overlord this sounds very raw as a death battle plus juggernaut is probably fighting knuckles (mid) so I think this is the next best option for overlord.

Coach Boomer: The writing is fire?? Very cool idea probably has become my preferred for Conquest over the span of this blog. They’re just so lonely and they need friends. Why not make them friends?

Omni-Man VS Megatron

Connections: Conquering authoritarian figures who start as ruthless and destructive forces, later struggle with their legacies of violence, and explore paths toward redemption or understanding. Both of their journeys are deeply rooted in their ideologies, their relationships with others, and their desire to reconcile their past actions with their present selves.

(Also from a meta point of view, their recent outing on the show has one of the most disagreed verdicts in the show’s history. Coincidentally, it involves Dragon Ball and DevilArtemis. Also both were voiced by Tom Schalk.)

Sirus: Both of Nolan’s episodes are great, but he needs a third episode that actually covers his entire story, and I wouldn’t mind seeing Megatron getting another episode that focuses solely on the IDW comics. While I do prefer Ultraseven as an opponent for Nolan, and Megatron has plenty of options in general, this is still a decent runback option for both.

Landon1195: I never thought of it before but it makes sense. I feel like Nolan does need a third episode so it can actually cover his entire story, and another Megatron episode in general would be nice considering while I didn’t dislike the episode, Frieza vs Megatron did kind of feel more like it was for Frieza than Megatron. And a matchup focusing on his IDW iteration would be neat. I personally prefer Baran from Dragon Quest as a third episode for Nolan, but this seems cool.

KaijuConvoy: Y’know, if you squint your eyes hard enough, this is technically Superman vs Optimus Prime. Jokes aside, this sounds pretty neat. Frieza vs Megatron is an episode that really soured for me due to all the issues with Megatron’s side, so a chance to remedy that sounds cool. While not my first choice for runbacks for both, I wouldn’t mind if it happened. Plus an episode that covers the entirety of Nolan’s story would be pretty dope. Debatewise, I think this is a bit closer than Mark vs Rodimus too. Personally? I think Megatron would just barely take it thanks to his antimatter.

Grand Regent Thragg VS Nova Prime

Connections: Megalomaniacal leaders of an alien race who sought to conquer the universe out of belief in their race being above all others, slowly descending into madness and hunger for more power the longer their stories continued, as well as fearing over losing the power that they had already amassed due to the protagonists being their rightful successors.

Riley: As cool as Zod Vs Thragg is, I understand it might be a bit one sided in Zod’s favor. This vibes pretty well, probably my favorite of the three here. As a bonus, despite not having much media appearances outside of the comics, Nova Prime actually has a good 3D model to use for a fight animation.

Landon1195: This might actually be my favorite for Thragg as of now. I don’t mind the stomp too much for Zod vs Thragg but I do prefer Rassilon for Zod. Thragg vs Nova Prime has a good theme and would make a cool fight.

KaijuConvoy: Honestly, out of all the Invincible vs Transformers matchups, this one has me the most curious on who would win. Like the rest, Thragg’s holding the stat advantage but Nova possessing The Darkness and having access to the Dead Universe might genuinely help tip the scales.

Iceking: This sounds neat. While I do like Zod for Thragg I think that matchup is a little too much of a stop for me also I would be more interested in learning about Nova prime then I would Zod.

08: It vibes. Read IDW Transformers

  1. An excellent read, although I do think you nerfed the Invincible triple viltrumite number (I think taking into account the moons and the giant ring of corpses, as well as the panel that shows only 1 of the moons remaining is important). I'm guessing Hot Rod doesn't scale to Megatron damaging D-Void. Pretty certain EVERY Transformers universe has 17 spatial dimensions too, according to Primus. Still, great blog.

  2. I feel like the research was made to be against Rodimus with limited it was for him.

    1. As pointed out in Before We Start, using a composite Rodimus or most versions would make it a very easy stomp for Rodimus, and IDW only was the most fair version and most thematic. It wasn't made to be against him, and he could win if you buy into certain calculations or wincons.
