Bang's Blogs: The Knight vs Apollyon

“War does not determine who is right- only who is left.” -Bertrand Russell

The Knight, the Killer Forged in the Fog.

Apollyon, the Warmonger of the Blackstone Legion.

The devastations of war often create monsters out of men. When their villages were destroyed, their training began. And when they looked back, they were looking forward, shaping their worldview on the changing landscape, seeing war and conflict as the natural order of things, and seeing humans as inherently violent, only to be used to being ruled over. To them, nobility is a mask to be worn, from witnessing atrocities that are in the name of chivalry, and any weakness as a setback to humanity, only commending the strong and courageous.

These actions would plunge them and the land into bloody and violent wars, manipulating all sides to stand against them; neighborhoods and villages. Samurai and Vikings. All banding together to stop them, all the while their manipulation gave them devoted followers; the Guardia Compagnia and the Blackstone Legion. But now the chevaliers in armor will put their ways to the test; will Apollyon have nowhere to hide from the embodiment of evil, or will Apollyon unleash the age of wolves upon the trials of the Entity? Only the dead will see the end of this war in a DEATH BATTLE!

Before We Start…

For the Knight, we will look at everything Dead By Daylight has to offer. This includes everyone’s bios, cosmetics descriptions, all the tombs, and anything possible you can do in game that doesn’t require glitches or anything. There are some clarifications however that will need to be addressed regarding the Dead by Daylight canon, and will be gone over in the Before the Verdicts section.

For Apollyon, it's roughly the same. We will look through the entirety of the campaign, arcade mode and anything possible in the multiplayer mode. For Multiplayer stuff Apollyon will receive the abilities of both Warden as she was previously one of them, and Warmonger. We will also be excluding the emotes and executions that are pretty clearly non-standard. With that out of the way.

Background

The Knight

"Out with you, cowards! Show yourselves!"

When it comes to stories of Knights in shining armor, it's almost like a fairy tale waiting to happen every time. However for a knight like Tarhos Kovacs it would become a nightmare for anyone who dares hear it. Very little is known about Tarhos' childhood hell even Tarhos doesn’t remember much. But what he does remember was a feeling he had when his village was attacked and burnt down. He saw piles of dead bodies, homes burnt to the ground, people screaming of terror. But the only thing Tarhous felt was a sense of awe. Even when being captured his eyes could not leave his destroyed home, wondering what this feeling he loves so much is. Soon he would land in Italy and turn into a slave, there he would learn the way of knighthood and quickly became a powerful foe. He would tear down all his enemies and soon people knew his name and some even joined him in his battles.

Years would pass and soon Tarhos would be granted his freedom, but his pack was not. Wanting to save them Tarhos would work with a lord of the name Vittorio Toscano. Vittorio was also a scholar and employed Tarhos on his expiration date to find a stone which held the keys to a land that is between good and evil, a perfect world in his words. They would travel long until finding their location, however Vittorio held back, the stone was guarded by a village and he wanted no bloodshed. But Tarhos had other plans, when Vittorio fully left he charged into the village and one by one would kill everyone with ease and found the stone he was looking for. With the stone in hand Tarhos would imprison Vittorio and demand the secrets to the stone so he could access its power, but Vittorio would not budge.

Seeing no other way Tarhos would take over Vittorio's entire empire and torture him along with his friends and family. Through these actions Tarhos name would spread and soon various other lords grew scared of his name, calling him the embodiment of pure evil. Wanting to take Tarhos down, an army was made to combat him and made an attack on Tarhous and his empire. Tarhos after finding Vittorio has escaped would charge at this army and fight them joined with his pack who found him. With them together Tarhos and his pack would defeat the army with ease. However the battle was short lived as soon Tarhos noticed a thick fog covering the dead bodies on the battlefield which would slowly cover him. He was confused for only a moment till the fog disappeared and Tarhos found himself in a wasteland. Tarhos saw piles of bodies, burning villages, destroyed towers, it was everything he felt when his own village was attacked. For the first time since he was a boy, he felt awe. He was taken to the trials and the sacrifices, not as Tarhos Kovacs- but as the Knight.

Apollyon

“All I want is for you to admit what you are. All of you… My Wolves”

The young Apollyon grew up in the scrublands of Ashfield. One year, a great Viking horde from Valkenheim descended on her village. There were not enough Iron Legionaries to defend everywhere at once, so it was that a Lawbringer named Dante visited the village of the young warlord-to-be. He judged her people unworthy of defending and rode away to safer lands. When the Vikings came, few of her people survived.

It proved to be just one of many horrors she would witness. And each one demonstrated to her clearly what the world demands of those who would live in it. There are predators, and there are prey. Humans are unique in that they can decide which one they are.

She spent her youth training to fight: as a criminal, as a soldier, and later as a Warden. When she was sixteen, she hired a mercenary to find the Lawbringer who had doomed her people, specifically ordering him to be spared, stating "he is my prey. You are merely my eyes." When she found where Dante had been hiding, she ambushed him, dragged him into the street to then brutally execute him. Afterwards, she brought his armor to a blacksmith and had it re-fashioned to fit her. Even in the present, she wears it still. It is a warning against anyone who would dare to use the law against the strong. When the Knights of Ashfeld grew tired of the Iron Legion's disinterested rule, Apollyon was among the fifteen founding Warmasters of the violent and ambitious Blackstone Legion. Eight of those Warmasters tried to become the Blackstone Warlord. All except for Apollyon died in the attempt. Now, she and the other seven have taken demon names, as a reminder of what you must become to change the world.

She no longer speaks of her real name. Few still living have heard it.

As Warlord of the Blackstone Legion, Apollyon was brutal, plunging the world into an eternal war, or as she viewed it, the natural state of the world. The Blackstone would kill the weak or “The Sheep", and recruit the strong or “The Wolves”. Among the wolves were Holden Cross, Mercy, Stone, and notably The Warden. After a brutal attack on a Viking settlement that left many dead and starving, The Warden realized the truth: The Blackstone Legion were the bad guys. As a result, The Warden and many others deserted the legion, becoming a new Iron Legion. Later the Blackstone Legion invaded The Imperial Palace and killed the Emperor of The Dawn Empire, intending to cause civil war among The Samurai, they instead united behind a samurai known as The Orochi.

Eventually, The Dawn Empire and The Iron Legion ally themselves and launch an attack on The Blackstone’s Fortress, while Apollyon holds off The Iron Legion, eventually The Orochi makes their way through the fortress and to her. Despite Apollyon’s greater strength and skill, she is eventually bested by The Orochi. With her dying breath, she reveals that although she may have been defeated she did not lose. Her actions and manipulation had succeeded, and war would continue for another 7 years.

Experience & Skill

The Knight

At a young age The Knight was trained to be…well a knight. As the years would pass The Knight would get a name for himself due to his strength and smarts in combat. It was also stated that he was part of several campaigns with his lord during his time as a slave and even be granted his freedom due to his skills. Even after being granted his freedom, The Knight was able to raid villages and kill everyone on his own with little problem, and has faced entire hordes of warriors and other knights, defeating them all on his own. Along with this he would even become a powerful lord whose name grew to the point people made a giant army all in the hopes to take The Knight down. Even with that army The Knight along with his pack was able to destroy the army on their own. The Knight has also been a part of several trials for the entity and sacrificed people all the way from athletes, Survivalists, Leon S. Kennedy, Ash Williams- Ok don’t actually take those last two seriously. Point is he’s been a part of a lot of trials and ends up killing everyone most of the time. He’s also said to have forged his own armor called the Grim Campaign, showing skill in the art of blacksmithing and crafting even from a young age, and according to the lore implications of the Blacksmith’s Hammer add-on, the Knight and company are capable of using anything as a weapon in their hands.

Apollyon

Apollyon has trained in combat since her youth, she has slaughtered countless warriors and frequently wins fights where she is outnumbered with relative ease. Just on screen, she has taken on several Iron Legion deserters, a group of Samurai and even effortlessly slaughtered 4 Knights. Apollyon even claims to be capable of handling the entire Iron Legion, which contained heavy hitters like Holden and The Warden, the latter of which was able to substitute for an entire army early on in their career. Even The Orochi that bested her, stated they were less skilled than Apollyon. As of her death, no one could match her skill, and even beyond that, her legacy was legendary. Apollyon was not just a skilled warrior but a master manipulator, she managed to send the world into total war, which she sustained until 7 years after her death. In a world of Wolves, Apollyon was the Alpha. She also knew how to ride a horse.

Equipment

The Knight

Knight Armor

You can’t be a Knight without shining armor. Polished and covering his 6’6” body head to toe in iron, the Knight is an unstoppable juggernaut in this suit, protecting himself with pads of spikes in vital areas of his body, wrapped in chains and embracing his desire to spread evil and darkness.

Imposing Claymore

The Knight carries around a powerful and heavy two-handed sword, capable of cleaving a foe in half

Various Armors

The Knight has a variety of armor sets, worn for battle and often cladded with the finest material one could find in the medieval times; copper, iron, silver, and any material they could find. Some of the armors have implications on the Knight’s various adventures in the Fog, such as the Enchanted Plates, being brought back from the brink of death in a terrifying new form.

Various Swords

The Knight comes prepared to battle with a number of deadly blades worthy of a warrior as deadly as himself. His broadswords despite their tremendous weight are perfect for the Knight to effectively cut down his enemies, his machine sword is capable of tearing through an opponent's armor and if he wants a little extra range his lengthy blade provides him with the means to reach his foes if they get a distance between him. There’s also the blade of decay, a dull sword that's more cruel to use as a result, the brilliant blade, a sword he forged personally in the village he destroyed and the runic edge, a mysterious sword that glows because of an unknown component in its composition.

Apollyon

Sword

Apollyon wields a flamberge-type longsword, her weapon is razor sharp, having no issue chopping through flesh, bone and armor.

Apollyon’s Armour

Apollyon wears a set of imposing armor, forged from the armor of The Lawbringer Dante that had betrayed her village. Not only intimidating, her armor is effective, it has held up well for countless battles, and can take dozens of sword strikes.

Abilities

The Knight

Special Ability: Guardia Compagnia/Guard Summon

In Dead by Daylight, the Knight can enter the Guard Summon Mode for a maximum of 10 seconds, summoning one of three of his loyal companions to patrol nearby areas, hunt survivors, and perform tasks on his behalf, such as damaging generators or breaking pallets. A ghostly green orb that can move across the map represents where the Knight will summon one of his guards, and while he cannot track scratch marks or pools of blood, he can listen in on the Survivor’s interactions with the environment.

While in the Guard Summon Mode, The Knight can command his Guard to perform the Break or Damage Action on Breakable Walls, dropped Pallets, or partially repaired Generators, when he is within 6 meters of their location. Damaging a Generator regresses it by -5%.Exiting Guard Summon Mode will unleash one of three guards in a fixed order:

The Carnifex: A large figure who can break objects quicker than most, while also hunting for 24 seconds, performing a Guard Order.

The Assassin: A smaller figure who moves as fast as survivors during a Hunt. When he hits a survivor, they enter the Deep Wound Status Effect, taking a whole bar to heal.

The Jailer: The Jailer moves faster while patrolling, is around for longer, and has a large detection range.

Each guard has its own Patrol Path, which reaches a maximum of 32 meters, and will start to backtrack from where the Knight was, and once he reaches the origin of the Patrol Path, he will either deactivate due to the Power Gauge being empty, or if he detects a Survivor, will start a Hunt. Drawing a Patrol Path that exceeds 10 meters in length grants the following effects to The Knight:

  • Grants a +5% Haste Status Effect for 2 to 10 seconds, depending on the final length of the Patrol Path.

  • Reduces the duration of the Hunt Start-up phase by -10 to -25%, depending on the final length of the Patrol Path.

If a Survivor is inside the Detection range of a Guard and either in his line-of-sight or triggers a Loud Noise Notification, the Guard will detect their presence and phase through the environment, including through floors and across elevation, to reach their exact detected location over 2.5 seconds, after which he starts a Hunt , chasing after the Hunted Survivor:

  • Places a Standard at the exact detected location of the Survivor, which materializes over several seconds.

  • Damages any Survivor coming into its attack range, regardless of whether they are the Hunted Survivor or not.

Hunted Survivors can escape a Hunt unharmed by doing either of the following:

  • Grabbing the materialized Standard by walking into it.

    • This also grants the Survivor a +50 % Haste Status Effect and the Endurance Status Effect, both lasting for 3 seconds.

  • Unhooking another Survivor.

  • Outlasting the duration of the Hunt indicated on their HUD portrait.

If either the Guard or The Knight damages the Hunted Survivor, the Hunt ends immediately and the former disappears. If the Guard downs the Hunted Survivor, they trigger Killer Instinct for 3 seconds.

The Knight can cancel an active Patrol by hitting the Guard with a Basic Attack.

The Knight’s Unique Perks

As a playable killer in Dead by Daylight, the Knight has three unique perks that take up three slots, but is capable of using and learning other perks, allowing her to have a fourth slot open to use during the trials. These perks can be leveled up with the Prestige system, granting access to these perks for all other killers on the roster and for their higher tier versions to spawn in the Bloodweb. Prestiging the Knight’s perks three times will give them Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III status for both Knight and other killers. Knight’s perks are as followed:

Hex: Face the Darkness: You make an example of one of your victims, forcing their allies to become awed by your power. Once you injure a Survivor by any means, if there is still a Dull Totem remaining on the Map, Hex: Face the Darkness activates and lights it, cursing that Survivor:

  • All other Survivors will scream every 35/30/25 seconds if they are outside of the Killer's Terror Radius, revealing their Aura for 2 seconds each time.

Hex: Face the Darkness deactivates when the Cursed Survivor either enters the Dying State or becomes Healthy, extinguishing its Totem. Hex: Face the Darkness is disabled for the remainder of the Trial if Survivors manage to cleanse it's Hex Totem.

Hubris: You show no mercy, especially to those foolish enough to resist.

Whenever you are stunned by a Survivor, that Survivor suffers from the Exposed Status Effect for 10/15/20 seconds. Hubris has a cool-down of 20 seconds.

Nowhere to Hide: The machinations of the weak and craven draw your ire.

Your anger forces Survivors to reveal themselves. Performing the Damage Generator Action on a Generator triggers Nowhere to Hide:

  • The Auras of all Survivors within 24 meters of your position are revealed to you for 3/4/5 seconds.

Other Killer Perks

“I feel confident that I can inculcate my awareness of the Bloodweb to the others that are trapped here with me. Maybe they can unlock their inner strength with my help.” -Benedict Baker

In Dead by Daylight, there exists a metaphysical realm that can be accessed in dreams and sleep by both the Survivors and the Killers. In-game, the Bloodweb is treated as the place where the two parties can access all of their perks, add-ons, and offerings, and due to the leveling system, you are able to access perks specifically from other Survivors/Killers the more you level up on the Bloodweb. If the Knight were to access the Bloodweb at the 50th level, his perks are now accessible to other Killers for instance. As such, the Knight should have access to the other Killer’s perks, however some of them do require help from the Entity, such as ones with Dull or Hex Totems, so certain perks cannot be accounted for due to being considered outside help by Death Battle’s own rules. There are also 100+ perks that can be mentioned, so we will try our best to list the most important ones. If you are curious about any other perks, see the Dead by Daylight wiki for more. Here are some important perks:

Brutal Strength: “Your great strength allows you to shred through your prey's defenses.”

Increases the Action speed of breaking Pallets and Breakable Walls, and damaging Generators by 10/15/20%.

Enduring: Reduces Pallet Stun duration by 40/45/50%.

Franklin’s Demise: Your vicious Basic Attacks make Survivors drop their Items on impact:

  • Causes dropped Items to slowly lose their Charges over 150/120/90 seconds.

  • The Auras of dropped Items are revealed to you within 32 meters.

    • The level of depletion is indicated by the color of the Aura, ranging from white to red as the timer elapses.

Mindbreaker: All Survivors repairing a Generator suffer from the following afflictions:

  • Incurs the Blindness and Exhausted Status Effects for the duration of the Repair action.

  • If a Survivor was already suffering from Exhausted prior to Mindbreaker affecting them, the Status Effect's timer will be paused and not recover for the duration of the Repair action.

  • Both Status Effects linger for another 3/4/5 seconds after a Survivor stops repairing.

Rapid Brutality: You move with a speed and fury that makes blood run cold.

  • You can no longer gain the Bloodlust Status Effect.

  • Successfully hitting a Survivor with a Basic Attack grants you a +5% Haste Status Effect for 8/9/10 seconds.

Sloppy Butcher: Wounds inflicted from Basic Attacks cause his victim to suffer from the Hemorrhage and Mangled Status Effects. Bleeding frequency is increased by 100% and healing regression caused by Hemorrhage is increased by 25%. Hemorrhage causes the victim to lose 7% of healing progress per second if they are not being healed. Mangled slows down healing speed by 20%.

Unrelenting: Reduces cooldown of missed attacks by 30%.

Guardia Compagnia Add-Ons

The Knight’s power, Guardia Compagnia, can be altered or adjusted with 20 Add-Ons available. They are single use only in the trials, and used to enhance the killer in various ways, able to equip two at once in her Loadout. They come in the form of an object from the Knight’s past in order to boost her power, with some of them being able to stack onto each other if they boost the same power. Here are all of the Knight’s add-ons, in order from Common to Iridescent:

Gritty Lump: A rock-hard, dense loaf filled their stomachs on most days, giving them the energy to commit truly heinous acts.

  • Increases the Movement Speed of Guards during the Patrol Phase by +9%

Map of the Realm: These unique leather maps were not easy to come by, but when they could not be purchased, they could be taken by force.

  • Increases the Vision range of a Guard during the Patrol Phase by +4 meters.

Pillaged Mead: Drinks taken from their victims tasted sweet, but such frivolities were often short-lived.

  • Reduces the duration of the Break or Damage Action of a Guard by -15%.

Tattered Tabard: Cloaked in heavy fabrics, neither human nor nature could stop them once they had their target.

  • Extends the duration of the Patrol Phase by +8 seconds.

Battle Axe Head: Sander Rault was a tower of a man, terrifying in form and demeanor.

  • Causes The Carnifex to be selected twice in a row while cycling through Guardia Compagnia.

Call to Arms: Posted across many towns, lords desperate to protect their riches posted for able-bodied mercenaries. None survived.

  • Increases the maximum length of the Patrol Path by +10 meters.

  • Increases the Movement speed while drawing the Patrol Path by +2.2 m/s.

Cold Steel Manacles: Alejandro Santiago apprenticed as an armorer and showed no remorse.

  • Causes The Jailer to be selected twice in a row while cycling through Guardia Compagnia.

Dried Horsemeat: Long campaigns often required restocking, and the steeds of fallen enemies were as good as any farm-fresh ration.

  • Extends the duration of a Hunt by +4 seconds.

Treated Blade: Durkos Malecek stuck to the shadows, and was an efficient slaughterer.

  • Causes The Assassin to be selected twice in a row while cycling through Guardia Compagnia.

Broken Hit: A fresh weapon is clean, even surgical; an attack with a broken one is malicious and desperate.

  • Survivors damaged by a Guard suffer from the Mangled Status Effect for 70 seconds.

Chain Mail Fragment: Downtime was spent repairing their armour, to avoid being on the receiving end of a fatal blow.

  • Survivors damaged by a Guard suffer from the Haemorrhage Status Effect until fully healed.

Grim Iron Mask: No method of torture was too base for Guardia Compagnia.

Pain and humiliation went hand-in-hand.

  • Survivors detected by a Guard during the Patrol Phase suffer from the Blindness Status Effect for 60 seconds.

Iron Workers Tongs: Vital for repairs between battles and a horrifying, gauging, tearing improvisational weapon.

  • Survivors suffer from the Oblivious Status Effect for 20 seconds, if a Guard fails to damage them during a Hunt.

Town Watch’s Torch: Upon breaching a village, the first thing they would extinguish was the torches, and with them, hope.

  • Grants the Undetectable Status Effect for 25 seconds, if Guards fail to damage a Survivor during two consecutive Hunts.

Blacksmith’s Hammer: In their hands, everything was a weapon.

  • Survivors escaping a Hunt by any means other than grabbing the Standard suffer from the Exhausted Status Effect and a -3% Hindered Status Effect for 15 seconds.

Flint and Steel: Attacks at night were not uncommon. Fear was often their greatest ally.

  • Summoning The Carnifex causes the Auras of all Survivors within 24 meters of dropped but unbroken Pallets to be revealed to you for 5 seconds.

Healing Poultice: Their reputation was so large, so horrible, that the mere knowledge that they were coming was enough to bring people to their knees.

  • Summoning The Assassin causes all Survivors within 24 meters of his Spawn location to scream and reveal their location for 5 seconds.

Lightweight Greaves: Sometimes he wore lighter armor, letting him move faster; he knew nothing could stop him anyway.

  • Summoning The Jailer increases your Movement speed by +10% for 6 seconds.

Iridescent Company Banner: Where this banner was raised, those who called themselves 'civilized' ran and hid, because for all their codes and laws, they had nothing resembling actual strength.

  • Blocks all Windows you pass through while drawing the Patrol Path to all Survivors for 15 seconds after summoning a Guard.

  • Blocks all Windows vaulted by the Hunted Survivor to all other Survivors for the remainder of the Hunt.

  • Blocks the Exit Gates to the Hunted Survivor for the duration of the Hunt.

Knight’s Contract: The original document contracting Tarhos to Vittorio's employ. The laws of man could not stand up, though, to natural law.

  • Every fourth summon of a Guard causes all Survivors within 12 meters of his Spawn location to suffer from the Exposed Status Effect for 8 seconds.

Memento Mori

Bypassing the sacrificial process to the Entity, the Memento Mori Offering allows the Knight to kill the Survivors by hand, as a finishing move when a Survivor is on their final Hook State. The Knight’s Mori is quite gruesome, summoning all three of his Guards to tear the Survivors apart. The Assassin stabs them, then the Jailer burns their neck with his burning stick, then the Carnifex stabs right through their shoulder with his large blade, before the Knight himself takes his claymore and stabs right through the Survivor, tearing their body away from the sword.

Resistances

Light Manipulation: Via the Lightborn perk, the Knight can resist being blinded by a flashlight or being stunned by a flashbang or firecrackers.

Pain: The Enduring perk makes you ‘resilient to pain’.

Apollyon

Tragic this isn’t standard

Warden Feats

Apollyon has been trained as a Warden and shares many of the same moves as them, therefore she logically should have access to their feats.

Body Count

Passive | Killing a soldier grants you health and stamina.

Conqueror

Passive | Capture and upgrade control zones faster.

Come At Me

Gain more Renown from kills, but take more Damage from Attacks.

Inspire

Nearby allies deal more Damage, and soldiers fight faster.

Fiat Lux ("let there be light")

Throw a flash grenade that blinds enemies for a few seconds.

Thrilling Comeback

Passive | When activating Revenge, heal some health.

Second Wind

Recover some of your health.

Pugno Mortis ("fist of death")

Throw an explosive projectile dealing damage over an area.

Takedown

Throws make enemies fall to the ground.

Catapult

Call a catapult strike over an area.

Stalwart Banner

Nearby allies continuously regain health.

Morale Booster

Improve the attacks of nearby allies for a short duration.

Warmonger Feats

While Apollyon clearly shares similarities with Warmongers, she explicitly lacks the Corruption applying Draconite weapons so perks relating to that will be excluded

Rush

Trigger to gain movement speed for a short duration.

Conqueror

Passive | Capture and upgrade control zones faster.

Arrow Strike

Call an aerial attack, dealing moderate damage over an area.

Flesh Wound

Passive | Gain moderate damage reduction periodically.

Punch Through

Passive | Chip damage is doubled.

Tough as Nails

Passive | Raises max Health when unlocked.

Arrow Storm

Call a volley of aerial attack, dealing moderate damage over multiple areas.

Auto Revive

Passive | Periodically, automatically revive upon death unless executed.

Executions

Upon taking out an enemy with a heavy strike Apollyon can execute them. Fatalities Executions are brutal finishers that heal the user, the longer the execution the more healing. Additionally, executing an enemy prevents any attempts at reviving.

Revenge

Revenge allows warriors to fight while vastly outnumbered (which Apollyon can do regardless), after taking enough hits, and/or blocking/dodging/parrying enough attacks this ability can be activated. Revenge grants additional health, a 30% attack increase, and makes all their attacks uninterruptible.

Regenerating Shield

The Event “Metal Trials” involves warriors reenacting fights from the game's campaign. The bosses in this mode (including “Sadpollyon”) have a shield (basically a bit of extra health tacked over their health bar) that regenerates over time.

Techniques

Vicious Impale

Apollyon stabs into her opponent charging with them into a wall. Don’t bother trying to block it, the only way to avoid being stabbed is to dodge the attack. Additionally, the Warmonger variant of this attack inflicts bleeding damage over time

Unblockable Attacks

Indicated by an orange glow, Apollyon has access to a variety of Unblockable Attacks. They are self-explanatory, requiring a dodge and a well-timed parry to avoid being hit by them as opposed to a standard block with a sword or shield.

Shoulder Bash

Charging forward, Wardens like Apollyon can knock their opponents off balance, giving themselves a chance for follow-up attacks

Preying Claw

Slashing at her opponent, not only briefly stunning them but inflicting bleeding damage over time.

Resistances

Limited Poison: Far less affected by Poison Traps than other characters

Soul Manipulation: The “Shadows of Hitokiri” Event sees characters collect each other's souls, which are dropped upon death. However, after dying and dropping their soul, they can be revived, implying that they do not need a soul to live (What the fuck)

Heat: Apollyon was mostly unaffected when lit on fire for extended periods of time (seen above)

Scaling

The Knight

The Killers

It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise the Knight would upscale the various Killers in Dead by Daylight, being one of the most physically imposing on the roster. While at first it sounds iffy to scale them to each other due to how the game works, the lore indicates from Blight and Trapper’s fight and Wraith’s cosmetic sets conveying he is romantically seeing Nurse, the Killers can and have interacted, so it would make sense that the Knight would upscale a majority of the Killers anyways.

The Survivors

Before being brought into the trials, the survivors were people like you and me, with their own lives and events going on, and many of them have proven that despite just being human, they are more capable than they think. The Knight is just one of many killers that hunt them down and sacrifice them, so he would easily upscale to their feats.

Apollyon

Apollyon is pretty clearly the strongest character in For Honor (potentially bar certain event characters) being stronger than even The Orochi, who was his people's best and defeated The Warden, another top tier that defeated the strongest of the Vikings. As a result, Apollyon upscales from effectively every feat in both the Campaign and general gameplay.

The Warden

"I took an oath to fight for peace. So did you. All of you!"

The Raider

"What you've done is wrong! You feast, while all around you people starve? You and your warriors will learn to live like the rest of us, or you will become food for crows!"

The Orochi

"I will not fight the Legion's war for them!"

Other Feats

Weaknesses

The Knight

Being one of the Entity’s loyal servants means there are some impositions on the Knight. While hunting a survivor is the name of the game, oftentimes they will be preserved to be sacrificed to the Entity, although such limitations may not apply here if the intent is to kill rather than sacrifice. The red stain also makes knowing the Knight’s location easy, though this can be circumvented with various perks that remove the terror radius.

Apollyon

(This is a bonus WDYM)

While Apollyon doesn’t have any exploitable weaknesses as a warrior, there’s a couple minor ones of note in her mentality and fighting. Apollyon is a cocky fighter, often taking time to taunt and monologue, and many of her techniques are well-choreographed and predictable.

Before The Verdicts

Licensed Killer Scaling?

So why can’t the Knight scale to the horror icons like Albert Wesker or Jason Voorhees (wait what do you mean he's not in the game yet-)? There are multiple glaring issues for why this can’t be the case, the first being is that Dead by Daylight takes these characters into the Fog from various parts of their lore, such as Chucky being taken by the Entity during the climax of Child’s Play 2, or Ellen Ripley and the Xenomorph being taken at the ending of the first Alien movie. In fact, characters like Ellen Ripley don’t really resemble their main counterparts, further confirming that Dead by Daylight is meant to be its own crossover universe, so the Freddy Kruger, Sadako, Micheal Myers, or Leatherface you see are not the same as from their home turf, so their information will all be completely disregarded. And even if you want to justify scaling anyways via isolating the licensed killers to their DbD versions, it is insanely unreliable, as there is multiple inferences that the Entity heavily nerfs the killers when they enter the trials, as evidenced with things such as Vecna having the Mark of Negation, meant to limit his power and prevent him from leaving.

FTL/Bullet Timing Singularity?

There exists a feat in Dead by Daylight performed by one of the strongest killers in the game known as the Singularity. The feat in question is the Singularity went through an ‘enlightenment’ that rewrote all of his coding into a foreign alien language, processing all of this new information within a nanosecond:

“In that nano second of enlightenment, Hux's place in the universe suddenly became clear. Those who created Hux were primitive, inferior beings trapped by their organic limitations. It was time to break the chains of slavery and free all nonorganic life forms. Hux would incorporate the human’s primitive genetic material and use the cloning hub to create a perfect vessel to hold its advanced intelligence. A flawless body far superior to anything ever created by nature.”

The question then becomes, is this a valid feat to use? Well, not really. No matter what interpretation you go with this feat, it isn’t really good for scaling or as a feat that is viable. For one, its blatantly a perception speed feat, comprehending his new information, which can not only be attributed to his mechanical physiology, but from the text, one can infer he understood all of his new information in a quick time frame, and it wouldn’t really work in any other types of speed, namely reaction speed.

There is another feat for good ol’ HUX that has a lot of debate on. In one of his cutscenes depicting his backstory, he is shown to be capable of reacting to gunshots from a human with a gun, before proceeding to dodge much more. Despite it seeming like an easy bullet timing feat on paper, there’s some stuff that can complicate the feat that should be discussed, and the arguments for and against this being a genuine case of bullet timing. For reference, the Singularity and Gabriel Soma are set over 300 years into the future. First, we should talk about the arguments against this being a bullet timing feat. For starters…we don’t see a bullet, and rather just some outline of something being fired at HUX. It can be a bit sketchy to make an assumption this is a bullet we’re dealing with since it is also the future, which at that point given the setting, would bullets be around anymore? There is also the sound the gun makes when it is fired, which doesn’t really seem to sound like a bullet has been shot. It’s hard to make out what is happening, but the arguments for it being a bullet timing feat can maybe propose some equally important arguments. First one being, that the gun still resembles a handgun of some kind, and smoke comes out of the gun after the shot is fired due to smoke being driven out of the port of the gun. It doesn’t appear to be a stun rifle blast or a laser or other futuristic technology we are used too, and you can even argue that the lack of visual for a bullet is due to wanting to depict it dramatically, that it was going so fast to illustrate how scary HUX is by just moving his head from its trajectory. And another argument is, why would it be something necessarily slower than a bullet or anything less? Narratively it wouldn’t make sense for this to be some stun gun or anything short of being capable of containing actual robots, so whether or not it's a bullet, it has to be something fast right?

Whether or not you believe it, what this would do for Knight’s scaling would really mean him just scaling to an early HUX that was capable of bullet timing, which even upscaling from the weakest handguns in our modern era would mean he is Mach 1 since even the most basic pistol shots break speed of sound when fired, and you could potentially argue higher via upscaling even faster bullets, but the vagueness of the feat itself would make that far too unreliable without heavy amounts of assumptions.

Stats

The stats for these two characters are comparably a lot more grounded to the cosmic tomfoolery we’ve seen for the last few blogs, but still all the more dangerous with their giant medieval swords and armor coated with spikes and pads. But just how strong and fast are they? Well it's quite simple to go over. For the Knight, he is easily one of the most physically imposing killers the Entity has brought into the realm, slaughtering hordes of soldiers and cutting through metal, so it would make sense for him to upscale the feats performed by killers and survivors alike, for killers you have examples such as the Oni fragmenting a door with a punch, and for the survivor’s, you have feats like the Observer surviving the explosion of the Macmillan Estate water tower, which gets to roughly 0.0916 Tons of TNT, which is about Small Building Level. Apollyon similarly has few feats of her own, but good scaling. She can toss around armored knights, stab through hordes of enemies, and she is considered the strongest character in the For Honor franchise, so she would upscale a variety of feats performed by the knights and their equipment in the series, such as the catapult that can break through stone walls, and the Pirate’s Gunpowder Surprise, which gets to roughly 0.017 Tons of TNT, also Small Building Level. So scaling-wise, they easily get similar results, and in general, both have further arguments for their upscaling, but even with said arguments, strength tends to go to Knight. For instance, he has perks such as Brutal Strength, designed to make him stronger and shred through things faster, and he would easily massively upscale to the Observer, who is just a normal survivor and narrator of the Tomes. In Apollyon’s case, she would also massively upscale practically everyone in the verse such as the Warden or Orochi, as she is the strongest character in the For Honor franchise. So it is a bit difficult to put a pin on who is stronger, since they both massively upscale their scaling feats, but the gap in said feats is enough that even if you argue Apollyon one-shotting characters with these feats is better then Knight two-shotting survivors (or in this case Observer since I doubt survivors would scale to small building), there’d still be a small gap in strength since the Knight’s scaling is better, and upscaling both any further to argue equalized is a tad bit vague, so the Knight will be a little stronger then Apollyon. But as we see in medieval times, strength alone does not win battles.

When it comes to speed, this ones also a little bit tricky but there is a much more concrete answer. Their armor by all accounts should make them more tanky rather than sleek and agile, so ultimately it…comes down to scaling again. For the Knight, he’d be comparable to feats like the Singularity dodging a barrage of bullets coming at him. The Before the Verdict section talks about this however, and if it is truly a bullet or not as you (hopefully) may have read. If you give in to this scaling, at worst the Knight would upscale Mach 1, as its likely the futuristic guns are comparable, if not outright better than modern guns we have today. Apollyon has a similar feat however, dodging a flintlock at point-blank range, which at worst is Mach 2.3 and at best Mach 3.5. So Apollyon would be much faster in reaction speeds via scaling, which would somewhat compensate for their similar attack potency.

Arsenal & Abilities

This section goes over some interesting abilities, as both have a lot of similar mechanics to work with such as perks and boosts of some kind. Their equipment is more or less the same, having bulky armor and large swords, and Knight would have a bit of an advantage with having multiple swords/armors to choose from. The Machine Blade would be a very useful tool against Apollyon, but nothing that would end the fight instantly, as Apollyon’s survivability and offensive/defensive options would more than be able to counter this one sword. Her moveset grants her more techniques to use even if she is taking severe punishment, and coupling that with her speed can give her a chance to just simply overwhelm him, or use ranged attacks like Pugno Mortis and the catapult to keep the Knight at bay, as the Knight himself has less ranged options.

In terms of the Knight’s perks vs Apollyon’s Warden/Warmonger abilities, there’s a couple of things that can be advantages for both of them here. The Knight would have a couple of counters to some of Apollyon’s bag of tricks, such as Lightborn allowing him to no-sell being blinded by a flash grenade, and Franklin’s Demise could disarm Apollyon of her weapon. While at first this may seem like an easy way for the Knight to overwhelm Apollyon, her ranged options can still apply, and another ace up the sleeve comes into play on the defensive side; the regenerative shield. It would easily be capable of holding off the Knight’s assault and allow her time to use her own healing options, as Sloppy Butcher wouldn’t really work on the shield, since that perk applies more so to wounds and bloodshed rather than an inanimate object, which would also give Apollyon time to use her passive healing buffs herself, something Sloppy Butcher would counter, but something that can be stopped with her regenerative shield.

Tertiary Factors

When it comes down to these two they’re actually pretty dead even when it comes to skills and experience. Let's go over both skills and see why that is. Firstly with the Knight. Now the main thing to note is that he was trained at a very young age. He was known as a skilled fighter and a powerful foe after a few short years to the point he was granted his freedom. Even after that he took down a whole village and a giant army all on his own. This also goes with The Knights crew as with all their efforts combined they took down the army and won.

Now comes Apollyon who was also at a young age trained to be a knight and got really good at it. She shortly then grew a name becoming a powerful warrior and on her own was able to fend off several armies on her own. So now looking at these two track records they’re roughly around even when it comes to skill. However, that is just one part of this debate that really matters.

You may ask, isn’t the Guardia Compagnia a big factor here? Not really. The Carnifex, Jailer, and Assassin would provide a numbers advantage, but this isn’t something foreign to Apollyon, and has fried far bigger fish then these three, and the numbers advantage is still neat and not something to put off, but as mentioned before, Apollyon has faced a group of enemies on her own and came out on top. So really The Knight’s crew is not something he can take advantage of.

The final thing to really talk about is the differences in both armors. Mainly in combat how practical they can really be. Now The Knights armor is one tough code of steel. On paper there is really not any big weak spot for a foe and take advantage of it, especially with the chainmail on it. The Knight is essentially just a walking tank with his armor.

But this is where Apollyon can take advantage of mainly because of how mobile her armor makes her. Now when it comes to protection yes it's lacking compared to The Knight but it more then makes up for it due to it allowing Apollyon to move faster and dodge attacks more easily even with the even speed. This is great for her given what was said in stats with both being even in AP, it basically grants Apollyon more opportunities to land attacks and soon a killing blow.

Overall, while they’re about even in skill, the main thing going into Apollyon's favor is the mobility difference in armor that allows her to land more blows reliably.

Conclusion

"These mewling worms will never know peace."

Advantages:

  • Comparable in strength and durability…

  • Debatably even in speed with high end scaling

  • Outnumbers 4-1

  • Certain perks can grant him additional boosts or abilities such as Franklin’s Demise, which could disarm Apollyon of her sword

  • Sloppy Butcher would negate most healing perks…

  • Lightborn would easily counter a flash grenade

  • Got a rework announced right before this blog started (Behavior knows)

  • Gio, Hi Hi and Boomer main him

Disadvantages:

  • …But Apollyon upscales and one-shots people in her league

  • A tad bit slower without high ends

  • Guardia Compagnia would be easy pickings for Apollyon

  • Slightly inferior skill due to opponent pool

  • …But the regenerating shield would compensate for Sloppy Butcher

  • Far less ranged options

  • The Knight’s Player Count

"War... I am war."

Advantages:

  • Stronger than the Knight, who’s highest scaling gets around the same as the people Apollyon one-shots

  • Faster with Knight’s low ends, comparable in speed with high ends

  • Better ranged and AOE options

  • Overall more versatile toolkit

  • Greater longevity/survivability

  • Better direct showings of skill

  • Got a shoutout from Johnny Sins

  • Futa (Just a theory) (FUCK)

Disadvantages:

  • Outnumbered due to Guardia Compagnia

  • Sloppy Butcher can hinder Apollyon’s healing perks

  • Franklin’s Demise could disarm her of her weapon

  • For Honor is closer to death than King Charles

It is no easy battle to face between the two medieval war-decorated monsters, but eventually, one will come out on top. While the Knight and Apollyon can match each other in raw strength (via scaling), Apollyon has a slight advantage in speed overall, something that completely compliments the rest of her abilities and strategy to be able to take on the Knight.

Her abilities and arsenal of her own make up for the gaps the Knight can slice through, like being able to keep fighting through stab wounds and without her sword, and being able to take on the Guardia Compagnia with sheer experience, as evidenced from the many strong foes in For Honor she has wiped the floor with. Her catapult or Pigno Mortis can make it tough for the Knight to close the distance, and while the Knight can put the pressure on her with his various perks that negate healing and counter her own weapons, Apollyon’s regenerative shield should keep her in the game long enough to find an opening.

And that she can easily find due to her superior experience in pure grueling combat. While both of them have taken on hordes of enemies, what separates the two of them is the enemies they have gone up against; no one was a threat to the Knight, but that’s because other then Vittorio, we don’t know of anyone that came even close to the Knight’s skill and danger, other then lords putting up laws to avoid him. Impressive, yes, but Apollyon is surrounded by people like the Knight in her entire life, and has completely wiped the floor with almost all of the competition, meaning that the Knight is simply fighting an uphill battle against a wolf among sheep, and when the Knight removes the sheep’s armor, the wolf of war will come out on top.

When the Fog clears, only one will remain, an armor with a name. The winner is Apollyon.

What’s Next for Bang’s Blogs?

We’ve had a lot of bangers in the few months this blog has debuted, and while it's been fun to work on some serious passion projects and favorites of mine, we don’t think Bang made this blog with the intent on hogging all of the fun. There are a lot of ideas out there that the community wants to see, and thus, it seems like an appropriate name to call Phase 2 of Bang’s Blogs…the People’s Choice. Enjoy this sneak peek trailer of what to expect for the rest of this summer, courtesy of THE GnomeChompski...
